Did you know...
ELF (Euless Library Foundation) has a new
website? www.eulesslibraryfoundation.org
Dear Citizens,
When we moved
to Euless, one of
the first volunteer
opportunities I
took advantage in
was the Euless Citizen's Police and
Fire Academies. Don and I are
both still very active in the alumni
groups and constantly hear positive
feedback from friends and
neighbors that have participated in
these classes. If you've ever wanted
to go behind the scenes and see
how these departments work, I
encourage you to sign up!
Our very own South Euless
Elementary 4th graders have been
studying Texas History and were
given a private tour of the Euless
Heritage museum. They have each
drawn something memorable
about Euless' early history. All of
the drawings will be on display at
the museum on Feb. 13. Between
that and our special appearance by
Mike and Leland Brown, you can't
miss Heritage Park Museum Open
House!

Midtown Express
M I DTOWN
FAPRESS
You may have noticed signs of construction along Highway 183. This huge
project is called the Midtown Express Project and spans 28 miles, 5 cities
and 2 counties and is due to begin construction in Euless starting in March
of this year. The project will reconstruct portions of frontage roads, portions
of general purpose lanes and construct one TEXpress (toll managed) lane in
each direction. While there are always challenges with any construction
project, the contractors, SouthGate Constructors, are doing everything they
can to keep you informed and traffic running as smooth as possible. For
example, while there may be some ramp closures, there should never be
two consecutive closures.
There are a variety of ways you can stay updated on any traffic issues:

Citizen's Police Academy
Begins February 18
The mission of the Euless Citizen's Police Academy
(CPA) is to provide the citizens of Euless a better
understanding of the dedication and integrity of the
Police Department. The CPA will not train you to
become a Police Officer, but it will give you
valuable insight into the philosophy, strategies, and
training that shape your Police Department. There
is no cost to the student to participate, and all
instructional materials are provided. The Academy
is a twelve -week course covering Community
Policing, Polygraph Examination, Identity Theft
and Crime Scene investigation techniques. The
minimum age for enrollment is 18 and you must
live or work in the City of Euless to be eligible to
attend. For additional information, or to sign up for
the classes, please visit www.eulesstx.gov/police/
cpa.htm or call 817-685-1563. The CPA is a great
way to get to know the Police Officers who patrol
your neighborhood, and to see your community
from their perspective.
Citizen's Fire Academy
Begins February 11
The Euless Fire Department is hosting its next
Citizen's Fire Academy which consists of hands on
educational experience in all aspects of the Euless
Fire Department, including protective equipment,
hose handling, fire extinguisher use, fire
investigations and emergency medical services to
name a few. The class is designed to provide you
with a better understanding of what firefighters do
and to allow you to get to know your Euless Fire
Department. The free classes will occur Thursday
evenings from February 11 to May 5. Upon
completion of the class, participants are encouraged
to join the Euless Citizens Fire Academy Alumni
Association, an active group of graduates that assist
the fire department in various support functions
including the operation of the fire scene rehab unit.
You must be at least 18 years of age and live or work
in Euless to be eligible to attend. For additional
information, or to sign up for the classes, please
visit www.eulesstx.gov/fire/cfa.htm or contact Ken
Rawlinson at 817-685-1600.
Water Meter
Replacement
In February, the City of Euless will begin a
water meter replacement program designed
to update existing water meters city wide.
You will not need to be home at the time
your meter is replaced and your water service
will only be interrupted briefly. The project
is being funded through a low interest loan
from the Texas Water Development Board as
part of its Drinking Water State Revolving
Fund.
Replacement process
In February, the City's contractor,
AquaMetric will begin replacing existing
water meters throughout the city. A few days
prior to your meter being replaced, you'll be
notified of the date the meter will be
replaced. The notification will include
contact information for the contractor and
the City as well as related instructions should
your individual situation require any special
arrangements.
Water Meter Access - The installation
technicians, who will be wearing badges and
vests, must have access to your water meter
box to complete the meter exchange.
Typically, water meters are located in the
front yard of residential properties, near the
curb. Technicians will not enter your home.
Water Meter Exchange - on the scheduled
day, your water will be temporarily shut off
for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour
while the new water meter is installed.
Typically, all work is done within the existing
water meter box, all necessary repairs are
completed and each meter box is returned to
its pre-existing condition.
After meter change out - If you encounter
any issues, City representatives are available
Monday through Friday by calling 817-685-
1471, and for after business hours
emergencies at 817-685-1526.

Tree Tips from the
Euless Parks Department
February
Planting
• Continue to plant evergreen shrubs, fruit, nut and shade trees.
Pruning
• Complete pruning of oak trees before February 15 to minimize chance of oak wilt infestation.
Note: Do not prune live oaks or red oaks from February 15 to June 30. If you must prune then,
always 'paint' the cut end with tree wound paint; being very careful not to paint over the collar
of the cut.
• Prune other shade trees and woody shrubs as necessary to remove dead wood and improve
structure.
• Finish pruning pecan trees and fruit trees before spring bud break.
