HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-02 Euless Today1015 February THE CITY OF THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF EUL°ESS Ortig Dear Citizens, I am going to miss my dear friend Gary McKamie. He is a visionary like no other and he sin- cerely loves our great city. His sense of humor and more importantly, his ability to laugh at himself are what makes him most endearing and a great leader. Gary is a relationship builder and strives to create positive partnerships with Council, employees, residents and the community. He has served as a mentor to many of our Euless employees and is most definitely a family man. I have truly enjoyed our time working together but after 42 years of service to Euless, I understand why he is ready for retirement. I consider our friendship a blessing and am very happy for Gary and his family. I am looking forward to the changes that are coming to Euless including our newest Councilmember Harry Zimmer. I hope you are too! He shepherded significant projects that have improved water conservation such as the Reclaimed Water Project that delivers recycled water for irrigation to apartments in northeast Euless. McKamie's conservative budgeting and innovative development, especially during the economic downturn, has allowed Euless to remain in a strong financial position. As Police Chief, he was instrumental in several accomplishments including the passage of the crime tax, the establishment of the Citizen's Police Academy, Town Hall meetings and the building plans of the police and courts facility. McKamie now feels the time is right for him to move into his retirement years. The Euless City Council will make a determination regarding McKamie's replacement. He has recommended Deputy City Manager Loretta Getchell for the position. "Loretta is an intelligent, hardworking and incredibly committed Deputy City Manager and talented leader who cares deeply for our employees and the city of Euless. She has been a great friend and cohort. I couldn't have asked for anyone better to work with on the issues that have faced Euless throughout the years." Raised in San Angelo, McKamie holds a degree in Criminal Justice from Dallas Baptist University. He and his wife Paula have been married for 40 years. They have three sons: Blake, Brant and Blane, and six grandchildren: Kylar, Kaylee, Kelsie, Jaxon, Addie and Annabelle.
