THE CITY OF
THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF EUL°ESS
Dear Citizens,
The Volunteer of
the Year awards
are such fun to
give each year. The
award winners are
always surprised
and very deserv-
ing of this honor.
This year's winners were no
exception. We are so appreciative of
all of our volunteers and thank you
for your hard work in FabEuless!
In addition, we also have our
Police Department and Fire
Department annual award winners
listed in this issue. We can't thank
our public safety team enough for
the tough job they endure every
day.
Summer camp registration,
summer reading club kick off, Out
of School Concert, Splash Pad
Opening, and the Aquatic Park
opening all signal that summer is
knocking on the door.
And of course, please don't forget
about our City Council election for
two places on the second Saturday
in May with early voting before.
The times and schedules are listed
here and early voting will take
place in the Euless Library. Please

Volunteers of the Year
Named for 2014
Euless volunteers consistently give their time and
energy to make our community FabEuless. In turn,
the City of Euless honors volunteers each year to
celebrate the dedication and service of these
outstanding people.
Volunteer of the Year - Bill Golden
Since 2008, Bill Golden has been a staple on the
Historical Preservation Committee. He served as
chair for four years. During his time as chair, he
played a very important role and led the
committee to expand in many areas, including
planning, setting up, opening and operating the
Euless Heritage Museum. Bill has worked many
hours at Heritage Park as a docent to school
children and visitors. Bill is also a trustee of the
Calloway Cemetery Association which maintains
and preserves Calloway Cemetery where many of
the original settlers are buried. Members of the
committee praised him as an effective leader and
for his enthusiasm, good humor and expertise that
have been invaluable to the historical museum
and the committee.
The museum opened in 2012 and features
priceless artifacts from as far back as the 1880s.
The preservation of our local history is so
important and will make a difference in our lives
for years to come.
Volunteer Business of the Year - Verna's
The Volunteer Business of the Year was presented to
Verna Knight who owned Verna's Cafe for many
years in Euless. Verna owned and operated
restaurants in Euless for over 40 years. She served
hot meals and made great memories the entire time.
Verna is a community treasure and the way she
greeted her customers/friends would always remind
you of going home for a little home cooking! Verna
was always quick with a smile and a hug. She's never
met a decent person she didn't like. Verna's was a
gathering place in this community where friends
came to share a meal, discuss business and catch up
on what was going on in Euless. She decided to
hang up her spatula this year, but she finds time in
her retirement to bake pies for the City Council
meetings and is always ready to serve up a hot meal
or a warm hug.
Volunteer Youth of the Year - Emily Hudgens
Emily has volunteered at the Library every summer
since 2012. She is a pleasant and mature young
woman who is eager to help with any task given to
her. Last summer, she worked the most volunteer
hours of all teens and assisted with a variety of
Summer Reading Club tasks from helping with
programs to assisting patrons with the new online
sign up form. Emily not only volunteers at the
Library, but she is also an avid reader and uses the
Library as well. The Youth Librarians raved, "It is
wonderful to have a teen volunteer with her
maturity and experience. She definitely deserves this
recognition! "

Lifetime Achievement Award -
Mary Lib Saleh
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a
person or persons in Euless that have given of
their time and efforts to the City of Euless
throughout their life. This year, the Lifetime
Achievement Award has been presented to Mary
Lib Saleh. There is no better cheerleader and
supporter of the City of Euless than Mary Lib!
She volunteered her time first as a City Council
Member and then as Mayor for 21 years.
Mayor Saleh was a city servant from 1989-2014.
She began as a City Council Member for four
years and then was elected Mayor for 21 years.
She served on both the Parks and Library Boards
and is a proponent of public art and historical
preservation. She was instrumental in the
research and due diligence performed when the
existing library was being built. She has always
had a great passion for our library in particular
and was one of the founding members of the
Euless Library Foundation. The library has been
named in her honor and will continue to
provide joy to people of all ages for years to
come.
Our congratulations go out to all of this year's
winners. The dedication of a volunteer's time
and energy cannot be compared and we
appreciate their love and admiration for Euless.
Thank you for all that you do to help make
Euless great!

South Euless
Park Splash Pad
Opens for the Season
600 S. Main St.
May 1 - Sept. 30
Mon. - Sat., 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Sun., noon - 6 p.m.
South Euless Park Splash Pad is free, family -friendly
fun. No matter how hot it is outside, the Splash Pad
provides an entertaining way for people of all ages to
keep cool. These amenities are great for younger
children because they do not present the same
drowning hazard as swimming pools. A magic touch
bollard turns on the fun. Interactive spray elements are
timed so water only runs when the sprayground is in
use. There are several water effects for all children to
play in including a raining bucket, an in -ground spray
fountain, poles, a colorful misty arch, geysers and a
spray column all located on a blue rubber surface. The
tropical landscaping includes banana trees and hardy
hibiscus. Two benches and a beach hut shade structure
provide a variety of places for parents to stay dry and
supervise while children play. Restrooms and the
drinking fountain are located next to the sprayground.
Admission is free.
