HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-06 Euless Today1015 * June THE CITY OF THE OFFIaAL PUBLICATION OF EULESS Did you know: The Euless Fire Department saved 14 hearts in 2014? Dear Citizens, Summer is on its way and I hope you will take the oppor- tunity to enjoy what our city has to offer. In this month's issue, you will find information on variety of ways to have fun and keep cool, including summer programs at the library, live music and movies in the park. On a more serious note, The American Heart Association recently began a campaign to bring awareness to the importance of calling 911 at the first signs of a heart attack. Reducing time to medical treatment is the primary factor in surviving a heart attack. One of the blessings of living in Euless is that we have 24/7 access to an amazing emergency staff. Our Police and Fire do an outstanding job and provide a great service, so, "Don't Die of Doubt." Trust 911 and make the call at the first sign of a heart attack. Register for a Free Irrigation Evaluation The Water Irrigation System Evaluation (W.I.S.E.) Guys residential program is a free service provided by the Tarrant Regional Water District. They send a licensed technician to your home to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your sprinkler system, heads and controller. The free program allows you to get advice from a licensed irrigator and ensure your system is as efficient as possible. This program has the ability to conserve millions of gallons of water each year, which helps the city to meet its water conservation goals. There is no cost to the city or our residents for participating in this program. While the W.I.S.E. Guys contractor will not make any repairs to the system, the contractor will make the recommended adjustments to the system controller if you request. In many instances, the adjustment to the system controller is the first step to water conservation and lower water bills. To sign up for a W.I.S.E. guys evaluation, visit www.eulesstx.gov/wiseguys. Questions regarding this program may be directed to Richard Ross in the Engineering Department at 817-685-1909. Euless Today is published by the City of Euless. 201 N. FUN FAMILY EVENTS 817-685-1400 www.eulesstx.gov Garbage Collection Guidelines With the warmer weather, it's a great time to clean out all your old junk. A few reminders as to how to prepare your trash for curb side pickup include: • Trash Bags - Place your trash in bags or bags inside containers for neater -cleaner neighborhoods. Loose trash in cans easily becomes litter in the streets. • Grass Clippings - Leave grass clippings on the lawn and let them work their way back into the soil to produce a beautiful, green lawn. Recycling or composting your lawn clippings saves time, energy, and money. • Curb Side Pick Up - Make sure garbage is at the curb by 7 a.m. of your pick up day, but not before 7 p.m. the day prior to your scheduled pickup. Emptied containers are to be removed from the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the day after the scheduled pickup. • Container Capacity - Total weight of garbage and container, or bundle, must be no more than 50 pounds and not exceed 35 gallons. • Fence Panels and Planks - Fence panels that come in sections (8 ft. x 6 ft.) need to be cut in half (4 ft. x 6 ft.) or smaller pieces for curbside pickup. Individual planks need to be tied in bundles weighing no more than 50 pounds each. • Bulky Objects - To dispose of bulky objects (washers/dryers, furniture, mattresses, stoves, etc.) place them at the curb with the regular garbage by 7 a.m. on your normal pickup day. A separate truck will come by later in the day to collect bulky items. • Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, etc. - Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners must have harmful chemicals (Freon, CBC's, etc.) removed. A letter verifying removal signed by a certified technician with a copy of the technician's certificate must be attached to the item for pickup. • Tree Limbs, Brush, Grass Clippings - Tree limbs and brush must be bundled for curbside pickup. Bundles can be no longer than 4 feet in length and can weigh no more than 50 pounds. A reasonable amount will be picked up on regularly scheduled collection days. Special pickup for loose brush can be arranged by calling Republic Services at 817-332-7301, extension 7. • Landfill - Euless residents have free access to the Arlington Landfill, 800 Mosier Valley Rd., four times annually. Euless residents must provide proof of residency and may dispose up to 10 cubic yards of waste. The Arlington Landfill accepts Euless residents from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturdays only. This service does not include the disposal of hazardous waste or non-compactable waste such as dense concrete or rock. Safely Dispose of Unwanted Medication Keep unused medications out of the water supply. You should never dispose of medication in the trash or down the drain. We now have a MedReturn drug collection unit located in the lobby of the police department. Safely dispose of all expired, unwanted or unused medications in the unit. You may drop off prescription and over-the-counter medications anonymously. Intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood borne pathogens. The MedReturn unit is available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Euless Police Station at 1102 W.
