Parks and Leisure Services Board
August 1, 2016
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. on
Monday, August 1, 2016, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy
Jones. Other board members present: John Raab, Tiffany Smith, Steve Doty, Jason Reyes, and Mohib
Nawab. Members absent: Roger Sickler and Salman Bhojani.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager
Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Graphic Artist Jeff Towne, Acting Recreation
Supervisor Liz Johnson, Seasonal Recreation Specialist Eric Smith and Administrative Secretary
Jordan Peterson.
Visitors present: Jerry & Margaret Womble, Jared Maddox, LaKevin Smith, and Isabel with Park Place
Townhomes.
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the June 6,
2016 regular meeting. Mr. Doty made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was
seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Jason Reyes— Kiddie Carr Park &J.A. Carr Park: Excessive trash due to rentals at Simmons.
b. Salman Bhojani—Heritage & S. Euless Park: Not present.
c. Tiffany Smith—Midway Park & Blessing Branch: No items to report.
d. Roger Sickler— Bob Eden &Trailwood Park: Not present.
e. John Raab- Preserve & McCormick: No items to report.
f. Chairman Jones—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report.
g. Mohib Nawab —Villages of Bear Creek & Reflection: No items to report.
h. Steve Doty—West Park & Wilshire: No items to report.
i. Chairman Jones reported on the following Special Events:
• June 10— Bad Monkeys at Texas Star Pavilion, 200 people
• June 18—Movie in the Park "Max" , 80 people
• July 10— Movie in the Park at Senior Center "Good Dinosaur" , 50 people

II. Volunteer of the Month
a. Chairman Jones announced the July 2016 Volunteer of the Month award goes to Erica
Smalls. Ms. Smalls leads a Boy Scout Pack and ensures that their time and efforts impact
the community that they live in. She consistently organizes and makes sure each Boy
Scout arrives on time and does what they are asked to do for our special events. She has
become a good friend of the department and is always willing to help whenever she can.
Ms. Smalls' award will be delivered to her.
b. Chairman Jones also recognized Jean Choyce as the August 2016 volunteer of the month.
Ms. Choyce works with the Cathedral of Faith Church who are always willing to lend a
helping hand. She organizes and ensures the city has volunteers from the church
whenever needed. Ms. Choyce can be counted on to organize anywhere from 5-20
volunteers at the drop of a hat. She is a great asset to the church and to the city! Her
award will be delivered to her.
III. Beautification Award of the Month
a. Chairman Jones announced that the July 2016 Residential Beautification Award of the
Month goes to Jackie & Betty Wilbanks at 911 Clebud Drive. Their landscape and lush
green grass provide excellent curb appeal not just for the neighborhood, but for the
community. The flower bed includes plants such as Pittosporum, Sweet Potato Wine,
Japanese Yew, and Gulf Stream Nandina. The newly planted pistachio trees add to the
overall look of the property. The Wilbanks award will be delivered to them.
b. Chairman Jones announced the July 2016 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification
Award of the Month goes to Park Place Townhomes at 425 E. Harwood Rd. There are
Pecan Trees, Crape Myrtle, and Red Tips surrounding the property and providing shade.
The flower beds throughout the property contain an assortment of different plants
including Pentas, Caladiums, Sweet Potato Vine, and Crotons. The overall look of this
property is consistently clean and beautiful. Isabel accepted the award and thanked the
board.
c. The August 2016 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to Jerry & Margaret
Womble at 611 Milam Dr. The lawn is always green and trimmed which makes it stand
out from the rest of the properties nearby. The flower beds near the house contain plants
such as Asian Jasmine, Japanese Yew, Agare Plant, and Red Yucca, which provide great
curb appeal. The large Live Oak tree in the front provides shade and beautiful setting for
this home. Mr. & Mrs. Womble accepted and thanked the board for the award.
d. The August 2016 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of the Month goes
to Chili's Restaurant at 2810 Highway 121. There are many Crape Myrtle trees
surrounding the property providing shade, and a pop of color. The flower beds have a
different assortment of plants including Maiden Grass, Knock Out Roses, Dwarf Fountain
Grass, Asian Jasmine, Begonia and India, and Hawthorn. Chili's award will be delivered to
them.

IV. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Tiffany Smith reported the following for June &July:
a. Total man hours for June 1-30 =651 hours
• 247.00 Horticulture
• 138.00 Forestry
• 76.00 Greenhouse
• 196.00 Special Projects
• 9.00 Training
➢ Cut fallen limbs off trail at Villages of Bear Creek.
➢ Removed limbs that fell on C.E.D. building.
➢ Cleared the back fence line at Westpark.
➢ Planted eleven trees at Redi-Mix.
➢ Worked with HEB Summer Youth Work Program at Pauline St. greenhouse.
b. Total man hours for July 1-31 =487 hours
• 248.00 Horticulture
• 132.00 Forestry
• 62.00 Greenhouse
• 7.00 Special Projects
• 38.00 Training
➢ Removed fallen tree at Midway Park.
➢ Trimmed trees at Parks at Texas Star.
➢ Removed dead trees at Fuller-Weiser Bridge and Villages of Bear Creek Park.
➢ Trimmed trails at Villages of Bear Creek Park.
Removed Crepe Myrtle suckers on Medians.
V. Parks and Community Services Reports
a. Staff Report—Jeff Towne, Graphic Artist
• Overview of current job duties within city and department.
b. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson
• Introduced Liz Johnson and Eric Smith to the board and thanked them for their work
this summer.
• Reviewed number related to recreation/pool/senior center/camp visits.
• Discussed upcoming events.
c. Community Services Report— Ray McDonald
• Thanked Eric & Liz for all their hard work this summer.
• Updated board on new baseball field — Legend's Field at Parks at Texas Star.
• Updated board on Trails of Euless Western Extension project.
Chairman Jones thanked them for their reports.

VI. Other New Business
September meeting will be Monday, September 12, 2016 due to Labor Day.
VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
No input from City Council or visitors.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Jones gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was
adjourned at 8:00 pm.
