BOARD MINUTES
October 6, 2016

Chairman Barney Snitz called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m.
DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to be made to accept the
minutes of the August 4, 2016 meeting. Board Member McGehee made the motion to accept the
minutes with a correction made on the second page and Board Member Kveck seconded the motion.
REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
Library Administrator Sherry Knight gave an overview of the statistics report for the month of
September and noted the increase in children's programs from last year.
Mrs. Knight gave an overview of the new budget for the 2017 fiscal year and discussed monetary
allocations for library materials.
Mrs. Knight gave a demonstration on new digital products and services available through our
subscription with TexShare Databases.
UPDATE ON LIBRARY EVENTS:
Edible Book Contest took place on September 30 and Patron viewing and voting went through Sunday
October 2. 85 patrons voted and 10 non-library staff and patrons submitted entries.
Early Voting will take place at the library beginning October 24, 2016 and run through November 4,
2016. Election Day voting will be held, as well, on November 8, 2016.
Teen Writer's Group will meet for eight weeks beginning September 24, 2016.
Little Skynyrd, a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band, will perform Friday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m.
The Euless Library Foundation will hold their annual Friends Book Sale on Friday, October 14 through
Sunday, October 16.

DISCUSSIONS:
1. Mrs. Knight commented that the library would employ a security personnel for afterschool traffic
for a temporary amount of time.
2. Mrs. Knight explained what was included in the new STEM kits that were soon to be available to
check out.
3. Board Member McAllister inquired about the future of magazines in the library, noting that they
were on the decline.
4. Chairman Snitz commented on the current and future library events and the increased popularity
of the adult craft program Make It and Take It.
5. Board Member Kveck commented on the City of Euless making #18 on Money Magazine's Top
Places to Live, stating that the library was mentioned as one of the three main reasons.
6. Board Member McGehee discussed his visit to the St. Paul Library in Minnesota and gave an
overview of their programs and events that were of interest.
7. Board Member Gibbs gave the results from the Euless Library Foundation's (ELF) success with
North Texas Giving Day and reminded the Board about ELF's involvement with Amazon Smile.
8. Mrs. Knight mentioned that applications for Boards and Commissions was extended to Monday,
October 15 and that the Library Board had two openings.
CITIZEN AND VISITOR COMMENTS:
LuAnn Portugal commented that this week was National Customer Service week and complimented the
Library staff on their ultimate customer service and positive experience.
Ani Valluru discussed his ideas for next year's Edible Book Contest entry, how bringing a STEM kit to
Brain-STEM could help advertise the kits to patrons, and inquired about how to check out e-books and if
there were mobile apps available for the digital products and services.
Abhi Valium discussed his idea for next year's Edible Book Contest entry.
Sabba Valluru thanked the board and staff for the digital products overview.
ADJOURNMENT:
Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Board Member Gibbs and
seconded by Board Member Kveck. The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
