IRVING
Motorists planning to take Texas 183, Airport Freeway, through Euless and Irving this
weekend may want to seek alternate routes.
Several closures are planned — assuming weather cooperates — to make way for the
partial demolition of the Esters Road bridge in Irving, just east of an entrance to
Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.
Here are the plans, which are subject to change:
▪ From 10 p.m. Friday to midmorning Saturday, westbound Texas 183 is scheduled to
be closed. Up to two of the four eastbound lanes of Texas 183 under Esters Road also
could be closed.
▪ From 10 p.m. Saturday to midmorning Sunday, eastbound Texas 183 is scheduled to
close. Up to two westbound Texas 183 lanes could also be closed.
▪ Esters Road itself will be closed in both directions, and both northbound and
southbound ramps to the President George Bush Turnpike also could be affected. If rain
gets in the way of these closures, they will be rescheduled in the near future, said Selma
Santin, spokeswoman for SouthGate Constructors, which is overseeing the project.
The closure is part of the Midtown Express project, which aims to improve mobility in
the extremely busy Texas 183 corridor from roughly Industrial Boulevard in Euless to
Loop 12 (near the old Texas Stadium site) in Irving. The total cost of the project is $847
million.
