HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-09-12 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board September 12, 2016 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other board members present: Tiffany Smith, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Jason Reyes, Salman Bhojani and Mohib Nawab. Members absent:John Raab Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Leadman Derrick Fennell and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Stacy Green & Erica Fennell INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the August 1, 2016 regular meeting. Mr. Doty made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Reyes. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Jason Reyes—Kiddie Carr Park &J.A. Carr Park: No items to report. b. Salman Bhojani — Heritage & S. Euless Park: Sand pile in parking lot at Heritage. c. Tiffany Smith —Midway Park & Blessing Branch: No items to report. d. Roger Sickler— Bob Eden &Trailwood Park: No items to report. e. John Raab- Preserve & McCormick: Not present. f. Chairman Jones—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. g. Mohib Nawab—Villages of Bear Creek & Reflection: No items to report. h. Steve Doty—West Park & Wilshire: No items to report. II. Volunteer of the Month a. Chairman Jones announced the September 2016 Volunteer of the Month award goes Stacy Green. Ms. Green is always the first choir director to ensure her students will perform at our yearly Heritage Park Christmas event. Each year she spends countless hours designing and implementing a choir presentation that everyone will enjoy. She organizing all the kids and makes sure they are there and on time for their presentation. Heritage Park Christmas event wouldn't be the same without Ms. Green's hard work and dedication. Ms. Green accepted and thanked the board for her award. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 III. Beautification Award of the Month a. Chairman Jones announced that the September 2016 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to Daniel & Ashley Potak at 508 Cullum Drive. Their lawn is meticulously groomed and kept green all summer long. The flower beds near the house accent the property and add nice curb appeal. It includes plants such as Wondering Jew, Elephant Ear, Asian Jasmine, Youpin Holly and Knockout Roses. The two matured Oak Trees in the front add to the overall look as well. Their award will be delivered to them. b. Chairman Jones announced the September 2016 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of the Month goes to Autrey Motorsports LLC. With an assortment of plants surrounding the building and sign, it stands out from the others located in this industry park. Some plants included are Crape Myrtle, Indian Hawthorne, Giant Liriope Grass and Burford Holly. The shrubbery is always maintained and well-trimmed. Their award will be delivered to them. IV. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairperson Tiffany Smith reported the following for August: a. Total man hours for August 1-31 =622 hours • 350.00 Horticulture • 108.00 Forestry • 132.00 Greenhouse • 26.00 Special Projects • 6.00 Training i= Trimmed trees on Main St. Greenbelt. r- Raised trees at Midway Park. Trimmed trees at S. Euless Park. Y Removed fallen tree limbs throughout park system. y Removed trees at P.A.T.S. for new construction of Legends Field. V. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Staff Report—Derrick Fennell, Leadman Horticulture Crew • Overview of the horticulture responsibilities and ground maintenance. b. Recreation Report—Suzanne Hendrickson • Summer is official over—Splash Pad set to close September 30. • New hire—Recreation Programmer/Special Events Ryan Turner. • Update on special events: o Stars Over Euless—Cancelled due to weather. Community Services Report— Ray McDonald • Update on Legends field. • Fall baseball and BESA soccer has begun. • Mike Daniel to be inducted into the Walk of Champions September 24, 2016. • Updated on the Green Ribbon TXDOT trail project. Chairman Jones thanked the staff for their reports. VI. Other New Business No new business. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input from City Council or visitors.
