Chairman Report
December 10, 2016
Barbara Collier
I joined this committee in, I think, in 2010. Since then I've
served as Treasurer, Vice Chairman under Bill Golden and then
Chairman for 2 years. Now, it seems my term is over. So
the Chairmanship will be passed on to the next in line.
The last 3 - 4 years, the Heritage Park and Museum have been
my passion. If I haven't been there working, I was researching
ways to improve it.
During this time, the Euless Historical Preservation Committee
has made many great accomplishments.
1. The Museum was literally born. It was a huge empty used-to-
be church. This Committee has worked diligently making the
Euless Heritage Park Museum, as visitors have stated, one of the
best in the area.
2. We spent over 6 months doing the inventory of our historic
items. Pictures were taken and descriptions were written. As of
now these photos are stored on my personal computer and cloud
drives. I even had to purchase additional Amazon space. In
addition, as new items come in, I would take pictures of the
items and add to the collection. I will be moving these pictures
to the Museum whenever a computer is installed.
3. Nearly all of the picture frames have been replaced with
black frames giving the museum a more coordinated look. I
don't remember whose idea this was, but it was a good one.
Thanks to you ladies that have spent days getting this job done.
4. With some objection, I recommended that we convert the
storage closet in the main room to a library. Gary Parker added
some floor tiles, painted the walls and put up shelves. The
library now contains books about Euless History as well as old
school yearbooks.
5. During this time the Artifact Finding Committee was
created. The items that Andy Weinzapfel has found are now on
display in the Museum.
6. Since we have a lot of old photos as well as documents and
newspapers, an improved Historical Albums Sub-committee was
formed. Archival, acid free materials are being used to store
these historical items so they can be safely preserved. Marilyn,
as Chairman of this committee, is an integral creator of these
ideas. She and Doris are generally working on these weekly on
the Wednesday Workdays.
7. The new Library Display Sub- Committee has set up a
rotation schedule to display different items in the Mary Lib
Euless Public Library. Thank you, Marilyn. The
items displayed there had not been changed in many years.
8. We also now have a Historical Tree Sub-committee. Andy
Weinzapfel was the creator of this committee as well as the
Artifact Finding Committee. Andy has been a great asset to the
creation of these committees, as well as in other areas.
9. Another newly formed sub-committee is the
Publicity/Programs/Speakers Sub-committee. One
responsibility of this sub-committee is to publicize the
Park. There are several avenues for this including through the
City newsletters and other publications.
10. We also have a Facebook page that Bill Golden set up. This
is great for getting information about us and our events out to
the public. As Chairman, I have been posting the information
here. This is has been a great source of publicity.
11. In 2016 we started having quarterly programs at the
Museum during Open house. This is also part of the previously
mentioned sub-committee. There were lots of negative vibes
regarding these programs, but they have been very successful
and they have brought many people to the Museum. More
people are now visiting Heritage Park on Open House
Saturdays than ever before.
12. And we certainly can't forget the post office and old porch
in the museum. Our amazing guys dreamed up and built these.
These are only some of the improvements and enhancements
made during the last 4 or 5 years. And you guys have made it
all happen. Thank you, thank you.
But, keep in mind that there are still many things that need to be
done or built. It is not done yet.
