OLD BUSINESS
4. Discuss ideas for fundraisers/sponsorship.
Ms. Eichorst passed out a revised sponsorship packet that the Board Members can take to
businesses. The goal throughout the year is to have sponsors and raise money for the teen
scholarships. There was discussion to have a link for community members to donate to the
scholarship fund. There were two locations for links to be placed on the City of Bedford
website. One of the locations would be a direct link to the Teen Court website and the other
would be the main City of Bedford website under"I Would Like to Make a Donation To"where
there are several options to donate within the City of Bedford. The Board Members discussed
this and decided they would like to have both of the links available for donations. All Board
Members were in favor. Advisory Board Member Moses Vakalahi mentioned he thought that a
tri-fold pamphlet would be easier to hand out to the businesses as opposed to a three page
packet. Advisory Board Member Jen Tucker advised she would be able to create a tri-fold, but
that it might take a bit of time.
Ms. Eichorst explained the volunteer program and how that is different than the teens that
volunteer and eligible for a scholarship. Chairperson Toms discussed what the scholarships
were and who could apply for a scholarship to the new Advisory Board Members.
5. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2017 annual Teen
Court Gala.
Advisory Board Member Lorrie Dickerson advised she has someone in mind for a speaker for
the Gala. She mentioned Smithfield Middle School Principal Kyle Pekurney, Birdville ISD. She
mentioned he is a great speaker and would be able to connect with the teens. Advisory Board
Member Moses Vakalahi advised that he knew of a potential speaker. He mentioned Charles
Clark, who is a custodian at Trinity High School, and has been recognized several years in a
row for connecting with teens. He has spoken at different events in the past and might be
willing to speak at this event.
Ms. Eichorst mentioned that she had found out that the date for the Gala, April 20, 2017, had to
be switched to Thursday, April 27, 2017 due to another event that same evening. She
mentioned the Board is penciled in for the new date of April 27, 2017 at this time. A vote would
be needed so that there is an agreement to change the date. All Advisory Board Members were
in favor of the new date of Thursday, April 27, 2017. Ms. Eichorst then asked about the colors
for the invitations and decorations for the Gala. The main colors of silver, gold, and black have
been used in the past and everyone was in agreement with using those same colors. It was
discussed about having the Save The Date cards again this year and can the cards mention
credit cards, cash, and checks can be used. Ms. Eichorst will check with the silent auction
company, All For G0000000d, to see if they might be available for the new date, April 27, 2017.
