HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-03-02 MARY LIB SALEH EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2017 ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Mary Lib Saleh Euless Public Library Board was called to order by Chairman Snitz at 7:01 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, in the Board Room of the Library, 201 N. Ector Drive. Those present included Chairman Barney Snitz, Vice Chairman Allan Gibbs, Board Members Jim Hamilton, Chris McAllister, and Carol Kveck, and Alternate Magen Brown. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Sherry Knight, Library Administrator Mollie Snapp, Administrative Assistant Pablo Sandoval, Library Aide Chris Barker, Assistant City Manager VISITORS LuAnn Portugal Misty Ricketts ITEM NO. 2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINTUES Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes with corrections of the regular meeting held February 2, 2017. The motion was made by Board Member Hamilton and seconded by Vice Chairman Gibbs. ITEM NO. 3 WELCOMED VISITORS Chairman Snitz welcomed all visitors present. ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Library Administrator, Sherry Knight introduced to the Board Pablo Sandoval, a recently hired Library Aide. Mr. Sandoval spoke briefly about his education and background. Ms. Knight gave a presentation regarding the Library remodel timeline and reviewed expectations, known issues, wants and needs, explained the process that will occur over the next few years and asked for Board input. Assistant City Manager Chris Barker explained the timeline in greater detail as well as expectations and funding. Ms. Knight gave an overview of upcoming programs and events: Library Board Minutes,March 2, 2017,Page 1 of 3 Library Board Minutes,March 2, 2017,Page 2 of 3 2017 Masterworks Music Series presents Cleghorn and Jiggernaut at the Texas Star Golf Course on Friday, March 17 at 6:30 p.m. *See the Masterworks Brochure for future concerts in Euless in 2017. Spelling Bee for Adults will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. Spring Break STEAM Camp will run from March 13— 17 at 2:00 p.m. for elementary aged students. ELF Book Sale will begin on Friday, March 31 and run through that weekend. ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS Library Board Chairman Chairman Snitz expressed his enjoyment at the Boards and Commissions Dinner and being able to sit together and stated how the City is like a big family. Chairman Snitz also spoke of other opportunities to volunteer within the City. Library Board Vice-Chairman Vice Chairman Gibbs shared that Ann Hillerman, Tony Hillerman's daughter, will be here in September and ticket sales will go towards food, drink, and an autographed book of her latest work. Vice Chairman Gibbs stated that the Euless Library Foundation could look at the wants and needs that couldn't be funded by the City as their new project for the Library. Mr. Barker agreed. Library Board Members Board Member Kveck expressed her excitement about the remodel and mentioned that visiting other libraries was a great idea. Board Member McAllister suggested visiting the children's area of the Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History and expressed his apologies for not making the Boards and Commissions Dinner. Board Member Hamilton also expressed his enjoyment of the Boards and Commissions Dinner and being able to sit together. Alternate Brown complimented the decorations at the Boards and Commissions Dinner done by Marilyn Johnston, Library Lead Clerk. Alternate Brown inquired about the RFID process that was mentioned during Ms. Knight's presentation. Library Board Minutes,March 2, 2017,Page 3 of 3 ITEM NO. 6 PUBLIC COMMENTS LuAnn Portugal asked that the Board and Staff remember that the Library is the focal point of our City when contemplating the remodel. Ms. Portugal also expressed concerns about the drive-up book drop not being accessible to all vehicles,big or small and also stated that RFID could be used for inventory tracking as well as security. Misty Ricketts introduced herself to the Board and gave a brief summary of her education and research for her Master's in Public Administration (MPA). Ms. Ricketts then inquired about the citizen input and if the community has seen this presentation or its information or if they will in the future. Ms. Ricketts also stated that she perceived everyone on the Board to be very passionate about their roles and that they were all of like mind and common ground. ITEM NO. 7 ADJOURNMENT Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Board Member Gibbs and seconded by Board Member McAllister.
