OF THE
EULESS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD
NOVEMBER 9, 2016
ITEM 1 — CALL TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Euless Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by
Director of Public Works and Engineering Hal Cranor at 11:39 A.M. at the City of Euless
Public Works Facility, 1513 Westpark Way, Euless, Texas 76040.
The following members were in attendance:

ITEM 2 — REVIEW & APPROVE MEETING MINUTES FROM JULY 20, 2016
Director Cranor asked if there were any comments or questions regarding the minutes
of July 20, 2016. With no questions or comments, the minutes were accepted as written.
ITEM 3 — STATUS UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES
Director Cranor gave a status update on 3 items from the previous meeting minutes:
1. Reinforcing the bottom of the fence in the play yard has been completed.
2. The water faucet and concrete slab have not yet been done. It is anticipated
that the work will be done in the spring.
3. The tree to be planted in the fall will be planted at a later date.
ITEM 4— UPDATE ON GAP
Foreman Spargur reported that GAP held an adoption event on 8/27 for cats only at the
"Mutt Shack" where 4 cats from the Euless shelter were adopted. In September, there
was a North Texas Giving Day where GAP received 59 gifts for the consisting of
$6,950. Also in September, there was a Pet fair held with more than 500 people in
attendance. TCAP vaccinated 179 pets and the Great Dane Rescue microchipped 35
new pets and an additional 6 from GAP. They held a small adoption event at the
SuperValu Pharmacy on 9/21 with no adoptions taking place and a "Wag-N-Wash" at

Dalworth Carpet that was well attended. GAP has a pet fair scheduled on 9/30/17 and a
walk-a-thon on 4/22/17.
ITEM 5 — SHELTER FACILITY UPDATE
Foreman Spargur reported that he and Supervisor Atkinson met with Animal Control in
Grapevine, Bedford, and Irving to discuss a "No Turn Away" policy of the pets that come
in to the Euless shelter. This will allow area animal shelters to accept stray animals
from citizens that were picked up on other jurisdictions, call the corresponding shelter,
and have them come pick up the animal.
Foreman Spargur reported that the "Clear the Shelter" event held on July 23, 2016, was
successful. Euless Animal Shelter had 6 cats & 5 dogs adopted at the event and the
D/FW area had more than 7,500 dogs and cats adopted.
The small break room area has been converted into a "greeting area" for potential
adopters to be able to spend some time with the animal they're interested in.
ITEM 6 — PERSONNEL REPORT
Animal Control Supervisor Atkinson reported that Animal Control Officer Jared Kraft has
gotten his Advanced Animal Training Certificate.
ITEM 7 — QUARTERLY REPORT
Foreman Spargur reported the following for the 3rd Quarter 2016 (Jul-Aug-Sept):
• There were 278 animals picked up this quarter. This included dogs, cats,
and wildlife.
• 27 dogs and cats were returned to their owners.
• 95 dogs and cats adopted through GAP or rescue
• 17 dogs and cats adopted through the Euless Animal Shelter
• 64 euthanized wild life, feral cats and dogs
• 72 dead animals picked up
• 604 service calls. Service calls have increased due to the revised
operational procedures that are in place.
ITEM 8 — QUESTIONS / COMMENTS
Director Cranor proposed that dates for meetings in 2017 be established. It was
proposed that the Board meet on a Wednesday (specific dates to be determined) in
April, July, and November. All Board members were in agreement. Councilman Bynum
asked if Dr. Read of Animal Control has had any interaction with citizens regarding their
domestic animals being attacked by wildlife and, although extremely rare, should we
issue a PSA in the City newsletter. Director Cranor mentioned following up on the
possibility of the Presidential Service Award at Trinity High School for volunteer service

hours and what steps would need to be done for the certification process, which
Councilman Bynum explained.
ITEM 9 —ADJOURN
The meeting was adjourned at 12:01 P.M.
