HomeMy WebLinkAbout966 04-26-1988ORDINANCE NO. 966 AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FOR 1988; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, heretofore, the Euless City Council, by appropriate ordinance, has provided for a residential homestead exemption in the maximum amount allowed by law; and WHEREAS, for calendar year 1988 and subsequent years, the maximum residential homestead exemption authorized to be granted by the City of Euless is twenty percent (20 %) of the appraised value of a residence homestead; and WHEREAS, the City Council for the City of Euless, Texas, desires to provide an exemption from ad valorem taxation for residential homesteads in the maximum amount allowed by law. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: SECTION I. That there shall be exempted from the valuation of all residential homesteads for which proper application shall have been made, an amount equal to twenty percent (20 %) of the appraised value of such residential homestead, though in no event less than Five Thousand and No /100 Dollars ($5,000.00) of the appraised value of such residential homestead. The exemption shall be granted to any of such residential homesteads qualifying for same as provided by law. SECTION IL Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and publication as provided by the Euless City Charter and the laws of the State of Texas. PRESENTED AND GIVEN FIRST READING at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the 12th day of April 1988; by a vote of 3 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions; GIVEN SECOND READING AND APPROVED at a regular meeting of the Euless City Council on the26th day of April 1988; by a vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions.
