Minutes
April 10, 2017
CALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chairperson, Linda Pool, called the meeting to order at 10:02 a.m. The meeting was held at
the Euless City Hall, Euless.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Doris Brown, Alford Browning, Michele Burger, Bill Byers,Joe Cannon, Barbara Collier, Iris
Elliott, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, David Massey, Veva Lou Massey, Anniece
McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool and Peggy Vandiver. Weldon Cannon, Mary Lib
Saleh and Andy Weinzapfel sent their regrets they were unable to make the meeting.
STAFF PRESENT
Director of Parks and Community Services, Ray McDonald; Projects Coordinator, Ofa Faiva-Siale
and Assistant to the City Manager, Betsy Deck.
VISITORS PRESENT
Joyce Turns and Frank Caldron
PRESENTATION
Betsy Deck handed out flyers (see attached) and invited the members to several great programs
she's working on. There will be a composting workshop on Friday, May 12, 2017, a free Plant
Exchange on Saturday, April 22, 2017 and a Grocery Store Gardening Workshop on Thursday,
May 4, 2017.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Peggy Vandiver made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Don Martin seconded the
motion. All were in favor, minutes approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The previous balance was $11,352.33. There was a deposit of$95.60 and expenditures of
$473.75, leaving a current balance of$10,974.18
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docent Reports/Recruitment—Gary Parker
a. Approximately 140 people signed in at the Blacksmith grand opening on
Saturday, April 8, 2017. It was estimated that there were about 200 visitors.

b. Mr. Parker made a motion to increase the budgeted amount previously
approved for the Blacksmith open house event from $500 to $540. Michele
Burger seconded the motion. Motion carried.
c. Event was a success and the food was delicious. Rita Parker and Elaine Green
really worked hard at the event.
d. Barbara Collier passed around several thank you cards for the members to sign.
The cards are for various people who were very helpful at the event.
2. Acquisition—Bill Byers
a. Acquisitions are on hold currently but the Voss aerial photo has been delivered
to the Museum.
3. Library Display—Marilyn Long
a. Still need to hold a work session to decide on a theme. A Farming/Agriculture
theme has been suggested for the next display.
4. Heritage Park Coordinator—Gary Parker
a. The North Texas Blacksmith Association contacted Mr. Parker and they
expressed interest in working with the Committee on future programs. The
Association could do a demonstration at Heritage Park where they would bring
their own tools, people, etc. for a day and be allowed to sell the items they make
on site. Staff advised that it should be okay to sell their items at the event.
5. Euless Marker—No Report
6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Barbara Collier
a. Weldon Cannon confirmed that the Water Tower on the Mural was the one
located at the Cannon Nursery location. Staff will update the legend and have
copies made.
7. Plaque—No report
8. Display Signs—No Report
9. Photography/Oral History—No Report
10. Historical Albums—Marilyn Long
a. Held a very productive work day and organized the albums. Six people worked
on the workday and they ordered lunch. It totaled $80. A brief discussion was
held regarding the purchase. Al Browning made a motion to approve up to$50
for the lunch. Gary Parker seconded the motion, motion approved. Marilyn Long
will send an invoice to staff in order to be refunded.
11. Artifact Recovery—Andy Weinzapfel was absent but sent a report to Barbara Collier:
a. No major findings were found at the Euless First United Methodist Church
Administration building location.
12. Historical Tree Program—Andy Weinzapfel sent in the following report:
a. Trees of historical significance are growing at various locations. He also met with
Randy Leach in the Parks Department and they've collected samples from eight
more sites to grow at the Historic Tree Farm at the Preserve at McCormick Park.

CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Donna Moore resigned from the committee due to her schedule. She hasn't attended a
meeting in a while.
STAFF REPORT
1. Gave a reminder that the Committee's budgeted funds for the fiscal year is nearly
depleted with the building of the Blacksmith and other Committee projects.
COMMITTEE REPORT
1. Al Browning discussed the "School House" project to generate interest and involvement
among school aged students (see attached).
2. David Massey reported on an article he received from Weldon Cannon and Patty Benoit
regarding an Audie Murphy historical marker being erected in Stephenville, Texas on
April 23, 2017 at 2 p.m.
3. Barbara Collier will have a workday at the Museum on Thursday instead of Wednesday.
Staff indicated that several members in the Committee have keys to the Museum and
the Fuller House to use, should the Committee decide to have multiple workdays. Al
Browning asked to be contacted as he would like to volunteer during certain work days.
4. The Victrola has been fixed. Helen Payton asked if a few members could get together to
be "trained" on using the Victrola and the Player Piano. The tech who fixed the
instruments gave specific suggestions on how to use and care for the instruments to
prevent further ware and damage.
5. Don Martin reminded the members of the candidate forum in the Mary Lib Saleh Library
that evening at 7 p.m. between Mayor Linda Martin and her opponent.
ADJOURNMENT
Peggy Vandiver made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Norma Lively seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
