HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-04-06 MARY LIB SALEH EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD THURSDAY, APRIL 6, 2017 ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Mary Lib Saleh Euless Public Library Board was called to order by Chairman Snitz at 6:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017, in the Board Room of the Library, 201 N. Ector Drive. Those present included Chairman Barney Snitz, Vice Chairman Allan Gibbs, Board Members Jim Hamilton, Mike McGehee, Chris McAllister, Carol Kveck, and Alternate Magen Brown. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Sherry Knight, Library Administrator Mollie Snapp, Administrative Assistant Donna Gooch, Senior Librarian—Adult Reference VISITORS LuAnn Portugal ITEM NO. 2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes with corrections of the regular meeting held March 2, 2017. The motion was made by Board Member McGehee and seconded by Board Member Kveck. ITEM NO. 3 WELCOMED VISITORS Chairman Snitz welcomed all visitors present. ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Senior Librarian,Donna Gooch,gave an overview of the various book clubs that the Library offers and participates in, including the Mary Lib Saleh Euless Public Library Goodreads online discussion group,the Euless Senior Center's"Whatcha Reading"book club,and Novel Ideas book club. Ms. Gooch also suggested and discussed several new books that are soon to come out. Library Administrator, Sherry Knight, gave an overview of the upcoming events and programs related to HEB Reads!, a Summer Reading Program in collaboration with HEB ISD, Bedford Public Library, and Hurst Public Library. Ms. Knight gave an overview of upcoming programs and events: Adult Spelling Bee, Saturday, April 8 at 10:30 a.m. Crud Day, Saturday, April 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Library Board Minutes,April 6, 2017,Page I of 3 Library Board Minutes,April 6, 2017,Page 2 of 3 Trinity High School Art Show, Saturday, April 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Early Voting begins Monday, April 24—28 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS Library Board Chairman Chairman Snitz gave further information regarding Crud Day and complimented the Celtic Rock bands that played at Texas Star Golf Course on St. Patrick's Day. Chairman Snitz also discussed the League of Women Voters Candidate Forum and recommended others to attend. Library Board Vice-Chairman Vice Chairman Gibbs gave a brief overview of the results of the Friends Book Sale that took place March 31 through April 2 and stated that Alternate Brown would be chairing the party committee for the Euless Library Foundation's (ELF) Ann Hillerman author event. Vice Chairman Gibbs also spoke of his visit to Cuba with the Rotary. Library Board Members Board Member McAllister inquired about ELF's next art project for the Library and suggested board members and staff to check out the bubble wall at the Fort Worth Science Museum. Ms. Knight stated that conversations with the architect will provide a better idea for future projects that ELF could pursue. Board Member McAllister inquired about additional information regarding the Trinity Art Show and if additional student art work might be on display in the Library in the future. Ms. Knight stated that the Youth Librarian has emailed local school's art teachers with little response but that it would always be welcome. Board Member Kveck commented on the success of the STEM kits and Story kits in the Youth department and their high check-out rate. Board Member Hamilton commented on the amount of events happening in the area this weekend including the Health Expo at the Senior Center and the opening of the blacksmith shop at the museum. Alternate Brown complimented Library Aide Denise Olson's work and creativity on the Library's Instagram page and stated that it was her source for what's going on at the Library. ITEM NO. 6 PUBLIC COMMENTS LuAnn Portugal commented on the amount of activities that the Library and City put together for the community.
