HomeMy WebLinkAbout986 09-27-1988ORDINANCE NO. 986 AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A TAX RATE FOR THE CITY OF EULESS FOR THE YEAR 1988; PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN EXEMPTIONS THERETO; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, on September 27, 1988, the Euless City Council held a public hearing on a proposal to set a tax rate for the year of 1988; and WHEREAS, all citizens and interested persons were given an opportunity to be heard regarding the proposed tax rate; and WHEREAS, due notice of such meeting was published according to law; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EULESS, TEXAS: SECTION 1 THAT the official tax rate for the City of Euless for the calendar year 1988 be and the same is hereby adopted by the Euless City Council as hereafter set forth. SECTION 2 THAT there shall be and there is hereby levied the following taxes on each one hundred dollars ($100.00) valuation on all taxable property within the City of Euless, Texas, to be assessed and collected by the Tax Assessor and Collector for the year, and collected for the pur- poses hereinafter stipulated, to -wit: (a) For the General Fund levied on $100 valuation . . . . . $0.320 (b) For the Interest and Sinking Fund levied on the $100.00 valuation . . . . . . . $0.140 Total Levy $0.460 SECTION 3 THAT there shall be exempted from the valuation of all residential homesteads for which proper application shall have been made, an amount equal to twenty percent (20 %) of the assessed value of such residential homestead. The exemption shall be granted to any such residential homestead. The exemption shall be granted to any such residential improvements qualifying for same as provided by law. SECTION 4 There shall be exempted the sum of forty Dollars ($21,540.00) of the steads of residents of the City of (65) years of age or older, from levied by such City. twenty -one thousand, five hundred assessed value of residence home - Euless, Texas, who are sixty -five all ad valorem taxes thereafter SECTION 5 EMERGENCY CLAUSE. By the affirmative vote of four or more of its members, the City Council declares that this is an ordinance for the immediate preservation of the public peace, property, health and safety, and is an emergency measure within the meaning of Article II, Section 11, of the City Charter; and the requirement that it be read at two meetings, as specified in such Section 11, is hereby dispensed with. SECTION 6 EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect and after its passage as provided by the Euless City Charter and the laws of the State of Texas.
