HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-04-03 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board April 3, 2017 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:02 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017 in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Salman Bhojani, and Mohib Nawab. Members absent:Tiffany Smith and Jason Reyes. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty INVOCATION Chairman Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March 6, 2017 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. 1. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Preserve and McCormick: No items to report. b. John Raab—VOBC and Reflection: No items to report. c. Tiffany Smith — Heritage and South Euless: Not present. d. Roger Sickler- West park &Wilshire: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes—Midway & Blessing Branch: Not present. f. Salman Bhojani—Bob Eden and Trailwood: No items to report. g. Mohib Nawab—Kiddie Carr &J.A. Carr: No items to report. h. Randy Jones—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Special Event Report: March 13—Mayor Fitness Fair at Midway Park—200 people March 17— Masterworks Concert at TX Star Pavilion - 250 people Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Volunteer of the Quarter Chairman Jones announced that the volunteer of the quarter is Ms. Margaret Burris. Ms. Burris has made a huge impact on the Senior Center and helping Diane ensure everything is running smoothly. She is always there to help clean up or simply greet new members as they come in. On trips, Ms. Burris helps to make sure everything is organized and gives information out to those who need it. For her continued support at the Senior Center she definitely deserves the award of Volunteer of the Quarter. Her award will be delivered to her. II. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for March: a. Total man hours for March 1-31 = 867 • 367.00 Horticulture • 232.00 Forestry • 107.00 Greenhouse • 0.00 Special Projects • 7.00 Training ➢ Trimmed trees at Midway Park. ➢ Trimmed trees at Westpark Way. ➢ Fertilized newly planted trees. ➢ Trimmed trees at Bob Eden Park along trail system. ➢ Planted 12 trees throughout park system from inventory. V. Directors Report—Ray McDonald • McCormick Park paver replacement completed. • Blacksmith Shop at Heritage Park grand opening will be April 8. • Spring break camp went well, and department obtained two new 15 passenger vans for senior trips/camp trips. • April 29—Arbor Daze VI.
