May 8, 2017
CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson, Mavy Wright, called the meeting to order at 10:02 a.m.The meeting was held at
the Euless City Hall, Euless.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Doris Brown, Alford Browning,Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Barbara Collier, Iris Elliott, Gary
Fieldsend, Kathey Knecht, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, David Massey, Veva Lou
Massey,Anniece McKanna, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Peggy Vandiver, Mavy
Wright and Suzy McCormick.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Al Browning made a motion to approve the minutes as written.Veva Lou Massey seconded the
motion.All were in favor, minutes approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The previous balance was $10,974.18.There were expenditures of$286.07 by Gary Parker for
the Blacksmith Open House and a deposit of$47 from the donation jar, leaving a current
balance of$10,735.11.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docent Reports/Recruitment—Linda Pool
a. Handed out the docent sign up list for Saturday,June 10, 2017.
b. Explained the docent process to the new members.
2. Acquisition—No report
3. Library Display—Marilyn Long
a. Will work on an Agriculture Display to replace the current display.
4. Heritage Park Coordinator—Gary Parker
a. Visitors from Holland toured the Museum during open house.They saw a
brochure at their hotel about the Museum and visited. Mr. Parker had an
interesting conversation with the family.The family's home was built in the
1890's and they indicated that homes in Holland are seldom ever demolished
due to the way they are built. Due to the extremes in weather, homes have

extremely thick walls,therefore, majority of the homes are seldom torn down
nor have major renovations done to them.

6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—No Report
7. Plaque—No report
8. Display Signs–No Report
9. Photography/Oral History—No Report
10. Historical Albums–Marilyn Long
a. Working on the "Fallen Police Officer" album.
b. Working on a "City" album. Weldon Cannon inquired about any documents that
are used regarding the incorporation, dis-incorporation and re-incorporation of
the City of Euless. As the "unofficial" Committee Historian, Mr. Cannon would
like to make sure that the proper documentation is included in the album. Mr.
Cannon has extensive documents on the process that needs to be included in the
album.
11. Artifact Recovery—No Report
12. Historical Tree Program—No Report
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Fire Chief Wes Rhodes will be speaking on the June 12, 2017 meeting about Fire Safety.
2. Spoke with Jo Ann Standlee, with the Grapevine Historical Committee, and extended an
invitation for them to visit Heritage Park.
3. Spoke with Susan Ellis regarding her membership. Ms. Ellis has not attended a historical
meeting in over six years. Ms. Ellis would like to be placed on the inactive list until her
children are older and she can rejoin the Committee again.
4. Gave a reminder that there are no meetings in July or August.
5. The Plant Swap event that Betsy Deck discussed at the April meeting was a huge
success.
6. The Art Contest drawings from 2016 have been returned to South Euless Elementary
School.
7. Mary Lib Saleh called and she has not been feeling well.
STAFF REPORT
1. Handed out a final draft of the Mural Legend for the Committee to proof.
2. The "Task List" has been updated and copies were provided to the members.
COMMITTEE REPORT
1. Linda Pool is working with the National Postmaster Association Magazine on an article
about her dad, Robert Nail. Mr. Nail was the first Euless Postmaster. The Committee
HPC Mtg. Page 2 of 3
was excited about the project. Mr. Nail may possibly be the oldest, living Postmaster in
the US. He has been a subscriber to the Magazine for many years.
2. Gary Fieldsend asked if more details about the items on the Mural can be provided to
the members. Linda Pool suggested developing a Docent Packet for the members so
that everyone can answer questions about the items when asked by the public. Weldon
Cannon mentioned that most of the items on the Mural are the same items that are on
the History Tile project in the Library.
3. Don Martin reported on the election results. Everyone was thrilled that Linda Martin
was re-elected as Mayor, and Jeremy Thompkins was re-elected as a Councilman.
4. Barbara Collier asked if can give a Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)
presentation at the next meeting. The members were very agreeable and Mrs. Collier
will give the presentation at the June meeting.
5. There will be a workday on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. to noon.
6. Veva Lou Massey reported that the Texas Star Golf Course is celebrating its 20'
anniversary on Friday, May 12, 2017.
ADJOURNMENT
Gary Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Peggy Vandiver seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
