MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
LIBRARY BOARD
THURSDAY, MAY 4, 2017
ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Mary Lib Saleh Euless Public Library Board was called to order by
Chairman Snitz at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017, in the Board Room of the Library, 201 N.
Ector Drive. Those present included Chairman Barney Snitz,Board Members Jim Hamilton,Mike
McGehee, and Carol Kveck, and Alternates Leslie Kane and Magen Brown. Vice President Allan
Gibbs and Board Member Chris McAllister were not in attendance.

No visitors.
ITEM NO. 2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held April 6,2017.
The motion was made by Board Member Kveck and seconded by Board Member Hamilton.
ITEM NO. 3 WELCOMED VISITORS
There were no visitors.
ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
Library Administrator, Sherry Knight, gave a detailed overview of the TexShare Value Report and
explained all that the system offers our patrons and how much money it saves the library. The
library pays 1% of the total cost and with this our patrons can acquire a TexShare card that gives
them access to check out books from other libraries, including academic libraries. Through this
system we're also able to offer the community InterLibrary Loans that provides access to items
that are not in high demand.
Ms. Knight gave an overview of HEB Reads! and information regarding the Kickoff Event for
Saturday, May 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and asked for volunteers.
Ms. Knight gave an overview of upcoming programs and events:
Summer at the Simmons Center, every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from June 7 to July 26.

Make It & Take It is our very successful craft program on Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m.
Coloring for Adults is a relaxing program for adults on the 1St and 3rd Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m.
ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS
Library Board Chairman
Chairman Snitz discussed the Firefighter's fundraiser"Fill the Boot"starting May 6 and going for
the next 3 weekends at Kroger and Lowe's in Euless. This fundraiser collects money for Jerry's
Kids and was able to raise $14,000 last year.
Chairman Snitz also gave an overview of the success of the April programs including Crud Day,
Arbor Daze and the elections.

Board Member Kveck commented on the success of the staff at the library, giving credit to Ms.
Knight's leadership.
Chairman Snitz inquired about the length of time that Carol has volunteered with the library and
Ms. Kveck stated that she is currently on her eighth year.
Board Member Hamilton inquired about the Adult Spelling Bee and Ms. Knight complimented the
format and success of the Spelling Bee giving credit to Senior Librarians Eric Terry and Donna
Gooch.
Alternate Kane inquired about the petitioners that have been going door-to-door, as well as
speaking with voters at the Library about liquor sales in Euless.
Alternate Kane also gave an overview and review of her participation in the Citizen's Fire
Academy.

ITEM NO. 7 ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Board Member McGehee
and seconded by Board Member Kveck. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
