New Water Meters and
Service Portal Helping
Customers Save Water and Money
The City of Euless spent the last year replacing over 14,000 water meters
throughout the city. Now that all of the water meters are installed, the City of
Euless has set up an online customer portal. The new meters and online cus-
tomer portal will help our homeowners to manage their water usage as well as
detect leaks and identify unknown water uses such as sprinkler systems that
unintentially water more than intended. This portal will provide a detailed
usage history as well as gives water customers the ability to create custom alerts
to warn them about high water usage.
Online Customer Portal
The online customer portal is a web-based, interactive application that is easy
to read and use. The online customer service portal will allow water customers
to view your usage hourly, daily, weekly or monthly and make more informed
choices to help save them money. This gives the water customer more control
to better manage water use and more importantly, their bills.
Usage - The new online customer portal will make it easier to detect leaks,
because you can see if your household is using large amounts of water or
has small continuous amounts throughout the day.
Alerts - You can customize the interface and create alerts to notify you when
you've used a designated amount of water each month or create leak alerts
when you go out of town. By using the portal, you can target water conser-
vation goals as well as budgetary goals.
The project was funded through a low interest loan from the Texas Water De-
velopment Board as part of its Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. You can
set up your account by visiting www.eulesstx.gov/water. If you have questions
or need assistance setting up your account, please call 817-685-1471.

Learn Bokashi Composting
for Kitchen Waste
August 31, 7 - 8:30 p.m.
Euless City Hall, 201 N. Ector Dr.
By now composting is something we've all heard
about, and maybe even something you'd like to
try. Maybe you're trying to go green but don't
have the space for a compost bin. That's where
bokashi composting comes in handy. Basically a
system of fermentation, the method has its roots
in the Korean pickling tradition. Bokashi
composting makes it possible for city-dwellers
and anyone else with little space outside to
lighten their environmental footprint by
composting food waste. This method also allows
you to compost oily foods and meat scraps that
don't belong in an outdoor compost heap.
Speaker Daniel Cunningham with Texas A&M
Agrilife Research will teach participants about
this newer composting practice. Each participant
will receive their own bokashi bucket and bran,
which contains essential microorganisms, so they
can immediately begin bokashi composting. If
you would like a bucket and bran, please make a
reservation with Betsy Deck at 817-685-1821 or
bdeck@eulesstx.gov.
Clear the Shelters
Saturday, August 19, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Euless Animal Shelter
1517 Westpark Way
The Euless Animal Shelter is once again
participating in the Clear the Shelters event. Animal
shelters across the country are participating in this
pet adoption drive that connects animals in need
with loving families.
Clear the Shelters began in 2014 and quickly spread
to a number of cities in the DFW area. During last
year's event, more than 53,000 pets from 400
shelters found their forever homes.
This year, nearly 700 shelters are participating in
this adoption initiative. On August 19, the Euless
Animal Shelter is waiving the adoption fee for all
dogs, cats, puppies and kittens. Join us as we seek to
Clear the Shelters and find new forever homes for
our sweet shelter animals!

To receive a PVSA, during a 12-month period indi-
viduals must volunteer a minimum of 100 hours
for the Bronze Award, a minimum of 250 hours for
the Silver Award and a minimum of 500 hours for
the Gold Award.

ored Euless' devoted volunteers and featured Tar-
rant County District Attorney Sharen Wilson as the
keynote speaker.
Congratulations to our valued volunteers. Your
support and dedication make our community

City of Euless Volunteers
Receive Prestigious
National Awards
Members of the Euless Citizens Police Academy
Alumni Association and the Euless Citizens Fire
Academy Alumni Association were honored at
an awards ceremony on April 24. The 29 indi-
viduals who received a President's Volunteer Ser-
vice Award earned the recognition by logging
100 or more hours as volunteers for the City of
Euless last year.
In addition, the Euless Citizens Police Academy
Alumni Association (ECPAAA) received a Presi-
dent's Call to Service Award, which is the high-
est level of the President's Volunteer Service
Award. The nonprofit organization earned this
special recognition by accumulating over 5,000
hours of volunteer service per year for the past
15 years. Mayor Linda Martin and Chief of Po-
lice Michael Brown presented the special plaque
(that bears the President of the United States'
signature) to the Board of Directors.
"This year between the Fire and Police Alumni
Associations, we will surpass 100,000 hours of
volunteer service since 2002," says Lou Baum,
ECPAAA volunteer and coordinator of the
awards ceremony. "We have some very special
citizens in this city who are very service
minded."
One shining example of these volunteers is Don
Martin. His total number of hours for 2016 is
1,069, which averages to volunteering over 20
hours a week!
Euless should be proud of its volunteers. In
terms of the number of hours volunteered each
year, it is second in the nation only to the De-
partment of Veteran Affairs.
Created by President George H. W. Bush, the
President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is
the premier volunteer awards program. It en-
courages people to live a life of service through
presidential gratitude and national recognition.

Register for a Free
Sprinkler Evaluation
The Water Irrigation System Evaluation (W.I.S.E.) Guys
residential program is a free service provided by the Tarrant
Regional Water District. They send a licensed technician to
your home to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of your
sprinkler system, heads and controller. The free program
allows you to get advice from a licensed irrigator and ensure
your system is as efficient as possible. This program has the
ability to conserve millions of gallons of water each year, and
save you money. There is no cost to the city or our residents
for participating in this program.
While the W.I.S.E. Guys contractor will not make any repairs to the system, the contractor will make the
recommended adjustments to the system controller at your request. In many instances, the adjustment
to the system controller is the first step to water conservation and lower water bills. To sign up for a
W.I.S.E. guys evaluation, visit www.eulesstx.gov/wiseguys. Questions regarding this program may be
directed to Richard Ross in the Engineering Department at 817-685-1909.
