HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-04-19 FINAL MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE EULESS ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD APRIL 19, 2017 ITEM 1 — CALL TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Euless Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by Director of Public Works and Engineering Hal Cranor at 11:37 A.M. at the City of Euless Public Works Facility, 1513 Westpark Way, Euless, Texas 76040. The following members were in attendance: Dr. Susan Read Council Member Perry Bynum Director of Public Works and Engineering Hal Cranor Staff Members Present: Assistant City Manager Chris Barker Facilities Foreman Kenny Spargur Animal Control Officer Joclan Shelton Administrative Secretary Debbie Latour ITEM 2 — REVIEW & APPROVE MEETING MINUTES FROM NOVEMBER 9, 2016 Director Cranor asked if there were any comments or questions regarding the minutes of November 9, 2016, With no questions or comments, the minutes were accepted as written. ITEM 3 — STATUS UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES Director Cranor gave a status update on 1 item from the previous meeting minutes: 1. City of Bedford Animal Control Officer Kenneth Horn has left the City of Bedford and resigned his position on the Animal Shelter Advisory Board, His replacement will be presented to Mayor & Council on 4/25, with an action item for the Council at the following City Council meeting. ITEM 4— UPDATE ON GAP Foreman Spargur reported the following GAP activities:Adoption event was held at Martin Methodist Craft Fair where 2 dogs were adopted. Students at South Euless Elementary held a collection contest organized by Corinna Cruz, the 4'h grade writing club sponsor, and were able to collect donated pet supplies. Jessica King, a student involved in GAP, Page 1 of 3 Meeting Minutes April 19, 2017 coordinated with students at Messenger College Christian School to have some of their students work at the shelter, Foreman Spargur also reported that Gap has the following activities scheduled: a Walk- A-Thon on 4/22 from 10am —2pm at Trinity High School, a dog wash event on 7/15 from 11 am-1 pm at the Viridian Artisan Market in Arlington, and a Pet Fair on 9/30 from 10am- 2pm at Trinity High School. ITEM 5 — SHELTER FACILITY UPDATE Foreman Spargur reported that Dr. Read performed a shelter evaluation, with the shelter earning an A+ score. The small break room area has been converted into a "greeting area" and shelter staff is looking at obtaining more appropriate furniture for the space. Madyson McGarry, daughter of City employee, held a fund raiser to collect toys and supplies for the Animal Shelter. A quote has been received and work will be starting on an addition to the dog play area at the shelter. There is a plan to also get water run to the area and install a concrete pad in order to wash the dogs in addition to other improvements to the dog park area of the shelter. 2017 "Clear The Shelter" is July 291h through August 1911. Adoption fees will be waived on August 19". ITEM 6 — QUARTERLY REPORT Foreman Spargur reported the following for the ls' Quarter 2017 (Jan-Feb-Mar): 0 There were 205 animals picked up this quarter. This included dogs, cats, and wildlife. • 26 dogs and cats were returned to their owners. 0 84 dogs and cats adopted through GAP or rescue • 6 dogs and cats adopted through the Euless Animal Shelter 0 7 euthanized wild life, feral cats and dogs • 66 dead animals picked up • 471 service calls. Service calls have increased due to the revised operational procedures that are in place. ITEM 8 — QUESTIONS / COMMENTS Director Cranor asked for a proposed date for the July meeting, Councilman Bynum suggested either July 12th or July 26th. After a brief discussion, July 261h was decided on as a tentative date. ITEM 9 — ADJOURN Page 2 of 3 i Meeting Minutes April 19, 2017 The meeting was adjourned at 12:09 P.M.
