HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-09 Euless TodaySeptember2017 Dear Citizens, School has started, but there are still plenty of ways to have fun during September. The latest artist to perform at our Season of Sounds Concert series will be Colt and the Old 45s at the Leon Hogg Amphitheater. The concerts are always great fun and this group will be sure to get you on your feet. If music isn't your cup of tea, the ECPAAA fundraiser will be held the following night. This is always a great place to see neighbors and mingle with a few of our Police Officer's. We'd love to see you there. Don't forget about the Trinity GAP Club Pet Fair at the end of the month. It's not only a great place to get some low-cost vaccinations, there will be lots of other services available for your pet. Don't have a pet? I have a sneaking suspicion you can adopt one or two there! Did you know...? City offices will be closed Monday, September 4, in observance of Labor Day. Trash and recycling services will not be affected. Mandatory Language for Monitoring/ Reporting Violation Failure to Submit a Disinfectant Level Quarterly Operating Report (DLQOR) MONITORING, ROUTINE (DBP), MAJOR/CHLORINE The CITY OF EULESS water system PWS ID 2200031 has violated the monitoring and reporting requirements set by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in Title 30, Texas Administrative Code (30 TAC), Section 290, Subchapter F. Public water systems are required to properly disinfect water before distribution, maintain acceptable disinfection residuals within the distribution system, monitor the disinfection residual at various locations throughout the distribution system, and report the results of that monitoring to the TCEQ on a quarterly basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not your drinking water is safe from microbial contamination. This violation occurred in the monitoring period: First quarter of 2017. We are taking the following actions to address this issue: The City of Euless performs daily monitoring of the chlorine residual in our water distribution system as required. All daily residuals for the first quarter of 2017 were performed and logged but we failed to submit the required Disinfectant Level Quarterly Monitoring Report (DLQOR) for the first quarter of 2017 to TCEQ on time, thus resulting in this violation. We will closely monitor this issue to prevent any future reoccurrence by sending the DLQOR reports in a timely manner as required by TCEQ. Please share this information with all people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (i.e., people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail. If you have any questions regarding this matter, you may contact Hal Cranor, Director of Public Works at (817) 685-1646. September 11 Observance September 11, 9 a.m. 9/11 Memorial, 201 N. Ector Please join us for a ceremony to remember the lives of the heroes who were lost during the attack on our nation. The City of Euless is the proud owner of an artifact from the World Trade Center. The artifact is a 12-foot long, 6,000-pound steel beam from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. This memorial is displayed in front of the Euless Fire Administration Building as a memorial to the thousands killed that tragic day. A Message to Euless Residents: In accordance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) rules, the City of Euless is providing this notice to our residents. There are state mandated reporting requirements that require the City of Euless to send water quality test results to TCEQ quarterly. The City of Euless did not deliver a required report by the due date and therefore, must provide the following notice to all water customers. City supplied water is tested at least 60 times per month for quality and safety. All required testing was performed and the water met state or federal guidelines at all times during this period. Euless Heritage Museum / 201 Cullum Drive / 817-685-1649 / ofaiva-siale@eulesstx.gov Open the 2nd Saturday of every month from 1 – 5 p.m. (September 9, October 14, November 11, December 9) Centennial Commemoration Remembering the Events of WWI, 100 Years Ago During the centennial of the Great War (1914-1918), the National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri will host a series of special exhibitions, pro- grams, and events to commemorate the first global war in history. On April 6, 1917, the United States declared war on Germany and officially entered World War I. Six weeks later, on May 18, 1917, the Selective Service Act was passed, which authorized the president to in- crease the military establishment of the United States. As a result, every male living within the United States between the ages of eighteen and forty-five was required to register for the draft. The Euless Historical Preservation Committee would like to commemorate our local history of this time period with special exhibits of pictures, stories, newspaper articles, etc. about Euless and surrounding cities residents and families. Did you have a family member that served during the War, or perhaps farmed to provide provisions, or worked in the factories, or mailed memorabilia to the soldiers, or provided any kind of assistance for the War effort? Was your ancestor one of these men that were required to register? To help recreate our local WWI history, we would like to have copies of these draft registrations avail- able for display. In order to get these copies, we need the names of your ancestors who were or might have been drafted. The draft registrations and other memorabilia, like photos, etc. can be displayed and maintained at the Euless Heritage Park Museum as part of our local history. Please let us know by posting these names on the Euless Historical Preservation Committee Facebook page and we will attempt to locate their draft registration. You may also contact Mary with the City of Euless at ofaiva-siale@eulesstx.gov / 817-685-1649. Living with Wildlife Euless has experienced considerable growth in recent years, much like many other communities in North Texas. There are some obvious effects of growth, such as the increased demand for water, sewer, streets, schools, and roads. There are other, more subtle effects from growth that also impact demand for City service. One of these is the demand on Animal Control. Until recent years, much of Euless was large, wooded, vacant tracts of land. These areas were heavily populated with coyotes, fox, bobcats and snakes, along with other variety of small game animals and varmints. These animals were able to live relatively undisturbed and were only occasionally seen by res- idents on the fringe of the woods. As development began to encroach upon these native areas, the animal's territory was increasingly re- duced. Of course, a natural result of that encroachment has been an increase in sightings of the animals by humans in developed areas. Texas Star Golf Course is a good example of beautiful development in previously rough, wooded terrain. It is also an example of wildlife living in harmony with development. Texas Star "residents" are rarely seen. However, at dusk and dawn these residents make their appear- ance. A family of bobcats can often be seen on a fairway. Coyotes are commonly seen and heard. In spite of the animal's presence, Texas Star General Manager Glenda Hartsell-Shelton reports that there have been no reported conflicts between patrons and animals. Residential development has also resulted in new homes and apartments in close proximity to animals native habitat. Animal Control Supervisor Larry Atkinson states that calls to Animal Control regarding reported sightings of coyotes, bobcats and raccoons have increased in recent years. Efforts to trap these animals have not been productive. Mr. Atkinson says that Animal Control Officers have never been able to trap a coyote. However, he also states that there have been no reports of bites or attacks from any wild animals. Animal Control Officers state that the animal's natural avoidance of humans plays a large part in this. Euless Animal Control Officers recommend that residents not approach wild animals. Try to avoid leaving pet food outside at night. If an animal is observed acting unusually, please contact Animal Control at 817-685-1594. These animals are an interesting and beautiful part of our Texas Heritage. Enjoy them as you see them. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone.
