Minutes
June 12, 2017
CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson, Mavy Wright, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The meeting was held at
the Euless City Hall, Euless.
MEMBERS PRESENT

Elliott, Leon Hogg, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, David Massey, Anniece McKanna,
Robert Nail, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Faye Stinneford, Peggy Vandiver, Helen Voss,
Andy Weinzapfel and Mavy Wright.

STAFF PRESENT
Projects Coordinator, Ofa Faiva-Siale; Director of Parks and Community Services, Ray McDonald;
Recreation Manager, Frank Ocampo; Fire Chief, Wes Rhodes and Fire Inspector III, Ken
Rawlinson.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Leon Hogg made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Don Martin seconded the motion.
All were in favor, minutes approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The previous balance was$10,735.11.There were expenditures of$50 by Marilyn Long for a
workday lunch and a deposit of$39 from the donation jar and moneybox, leaving a current
balance of$10,724.11.
GUEST SPEAKER/S
1. Wes Rhodes and Ken Rawlinson with the Euless Fire Department gave an interesting
presentation about smoke detector safety. Members of the Committee asked many
questions about different aspects of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and
the installation process, etc.
2. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) presented Veterans, Bill Byers, O.D.
Lively, Robert Nail, Leon Hogg and David Massey appreciation certificates and pins for

their services in the US Military. Historical Committee members also expressed their
appreciation to these five Vets for their services to our nation.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docent Reports/Recruitment—Linda Pool
a. Twenty-four students with Bedford Christian Academy toured Heritage Park on
Wednesday, May 31, 2017.The students were very well behaved and Linda Pool
and Mavy Wright served as docents.
b. A daycare will tour Heritage Park on Monday,July 10, 2017.
c. Docent signup sheets for July, August and September were handed out for people
to volunteer to serve as docents.
d. Mavy Wright reported that a family from Florida stopped by the Museum during a
workday and were able to tour the facilities.
e. There were 10 visitors at open house on Saturday,June 10, 2017.
2. Acquisition
a. Mavy Wright reported that she has a cap and tie (Army)to complete the uniform
set inside the Military room.
b. Barbara Collier gave a reminder that there is a trunk containing various military
items in the Museum that still needs to be reviewed and approved for the
inventory. Barbara Collier was asked if she would review the items in the truck.
Ms. Collier agreed to look over the items.
3. Library Display—Marilyn Long
a. Started preparing and collecting items for the next Library display.The next
display theme will be a "Farming Life". Ms. Long will submit verbiage for signage
so Staff can have the signs made.
b. Ms. Long will make a list of all the items from the previous display titled
"Children's World" and give the list to staff so they can change the location of
these items in PastPerfect.
c. Ms. Long will also make a list of all the items that will be moved to the Library for
the"Farming Life" display and turn that in to staff so item locations can be
changed in PastPerfect as well.

8. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Bill Golden
a. Barbara Collier posted on Facebook asking for the public's opinion about possible
display and/or speakers so a program can be developed to fit the public's needs.

11. Photography/Oral History
a. Barbara Collier indicated that she can schedule interviews for the oral history
program.
12. Artifact Recovery—No Report
13. Historical Tree Program—Andy Weinzapfel reported that the Parks Department has
cuttings to nurture and grow for the historic tree program.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Mural Brochure:the brochure has been completed and copies were distributed to the
members.The Committee asked Weldon Cannon if he can provide additional information
for each item on the Mural.The members would like more details on the items on the
Mural so they can better answer questions by the public. Mr. Cannon will work on the
project over the summer.
2. Two new display cases were acquired from the Library and both are stored inside the
Museum. The City will have rollers installed on all the cabinets inside the Museum.
3. Discussed the idea of removing the pews inside the Museum to make more room. After
some discussion about the matter, Leon Hogg made a motion to remove the two pews
from inside the Museum. Barbara Collier seconded the motion. Majority were in favor.
Motion carried.
4. Asked about the fence section from the Euless Junior High overpass over Highway 183
that was acquired in 2016.The section of the fence was to be installed on the property.A
discussion was held regarding how to display the fence section. Ray McDonald will have
Terry Boaz contact Gary Parker to work out the details on how to display the fence piece.
5. Handed out the sub-committee volunteer list for the members to note the Committees
they would like to volunteer on and return the list to Mrs. Wright. (see attached)
6. Staff indicated that Information Services (IS) is aware of the request for a computer for
the Museum. IS will install a computer as soon as they are able.
7. Gave a reminder that if anyone in the committee has to leave early for any reason, he or
she is free to quietly leave the meeting and allow the meeting to continue until the
majority adjourns it.
COMMITTEE REPORT
1. Barbara Collier and Don Martin reported that Bill Golden hasn't been feeling well but is
still interested in attending meetings and working with the committee.
2. Linda Pool displayed and discussed an article in the National Postmaster Association
Magazine. The article was very well done, with funny stories about Mr. Nail's journey as
Euless'first Postmaster. Staff will make copies of the article and give them to Linda Pool.
The Association also gave Mr. Nail an award with the old US Mail Eagle on it. Ms. Pool

donated a copy of the magazine and the award to the Museum. The Committee will
acquire donation forms for each of the items so they can be inventoried.
ADJOURNMENT
Gary Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting. David Massey seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:55 a.m.
