Minutes
September 11, 2017
CALLTO ORDER
Chairperson, Mavy Wright, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The meeting was held at
the Euless City Hall, Euless.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Doris Brown, Alford Browning, Weldon Cannon, Barbara Collier, Leon Hogg, Norma Lively, Don
Martin, David Massey, Veva Lou Massey, Anniece McKanna, Suzy McCormick, Gary Parker, Faye
Stinneford, Peggy Vandiver and Andy Weinzapfel.

STAFF PRESENT
Projects Coordinator, Ofa Faiva-Siale; Director of Parks and Community Services, Ray McDonald;
Recreation Manager, Frank Ocampo; Administrative Secretary 1, Mollie Snapp and Library
Administrator, Sherry Knight.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Barbara Collier added that she is working on a WWI memorial project and it was not in the
minutes. Peggy Vandiver made a motion to approve the minutes with the addition and Don
Martin seconded the motion. All were in favor, minutes approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The previous balance was $10,724.11. There was a deposit of$30. $22 was from the money jar
and $8 was from the moneybox, leaving a current balance of$10,754.11.
GUEST SPEAKERS
Sherry Knight, Library Administrator, gave a presentation about the upcoming closure and
remodeling plans for the Mary Lib Saleh Public Library.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docent Reports/Recruitment-Mavy Wright
a. Approximately 30 people signed in at open house on Saturday, September 9.
b. A docent signup sheet was passed around for docent volunteers.

c. The Committee discussed whether they should open Heritage Park at noon
instead of I p.m. on October 14, 2017.The Greek Food Festival will be on the
same day. After a brief discussion, Al Browning made a motion to open at noon,
Peggy Vandiver seconded the motion, no one opposed, motion carried.
2. Acquisition
a. Weldon Cannon will donate a couple of items to the museum. He displayed a
bronze commemorative medallion dated 1776-1976 with Euless stamped on it.
He also displayed an old Western Hills Inn room key.
b. Barbara Collier reported on the following:
• She has completed a majority of the inventory over the summer.
• She is currently working on gathering data for a couple of lists that she
received from staff.
• The "hold" on donation acceptance is still ongoing until further notice.
• Many donated items are stored in the "storage room" at the Museum
without donation forms. She will need to have donation forms
completed for each item in the nearfuture.
• Ms.-collier volunteered to chair an Inventory Sub-committee. The Sub-
committee's purpose will be to ensure every item entered into the
inventory is properly documented. She will coordinate with the
Acquisition Sub-committee. Norma Lively made a motion to approve the
proposed sub-committee. Andy Weinzapfel seconded the motion. All
were in favor, motion carried.
3. Facebook-Barbara Collier reported that she regularly posts about open house on
Facebook. Ms. Collier reported that Bill Golden also posts in other local advertisement
avenues.

6. Display Signs- No Report
7. Publicity/Program/Speakers-Barbara Collier
a. Would like to bring back speakers like Quanah Parker's great-great grandson,
Lance Tahmahkera to speak at open house.
b. Will be working on the WWI expo for 2018.
8. Historical Albums - Doris Brown reported that the Fallen Police Officer album is
complete. Ms. Brown will wait for Marilyn Long to present the Scrapbook to the
Committee.
9. Heritage Park Coordinator-Gary Parker noted that the City replaced the wrought iron
fence around the Fuller House.
10. Photography/Oral History-
a. Members asked if the City of Euless takes photographs of the city for their files.
The Committee would like photos for their records. Staff will check and follow-up

with the Committee. Weldon Cannon felt that occasional photos of different
areas around the City would be enough for this program. The members were
agreeable,
b. Barbara Collier indicated that she has a friend who has done oral history
recordings from years ago and she will get those recordings for the project.
11. Evolving History Sub-committee
a. Barbara Collier said that she used to head this Sub-committee but could not do it
anymore. She wondered if the Committee could berevived.
12. Artifact Recovery-Nothing new to report.
13. Historical Tree Program-Andy Weinzapfel has been in communication with Randy Leach
with Parks regarding various aspects of the program. Work on the tree website page is
ongoing.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Mavy Wright asked for the members' thoughts about possibly working to get the
McCormick Barn into working condition so it could be opened for public tours. The barn
is advertised as available as a part of Heritage Park tour.Several members volunteered to
help with the project as needed, others had questions about the project. After a
discussion about the idea, Norma Lively suggested proceeding with work to get the barn
open for tours. Staff will go photograph the inside of the barn and email the Committee
so they can have an idea of what items are inside the barn. Staff will also remove the
stack of lumber stored inside the barn. The members will decide from there how to
proceed with work on the barn.
2. The Computer was delivered and set up in the Museum. That project is done.
3. The PA system has been purchased and delivered to the Museum. That project is done.
4. The Sub-committee list will be updated.
COMMITTEE REPORT
1. Mural Brochure: Weldon Cannon is still working on the write up for ail the objects on the
mural. Many ofthe figures on the mural are duplicates of items from the Library History
Tile project. Mr. Cannon asked if the data collected for the Library History Tile project
could be sent to him. Staff will send the information to Mr. Cannon. Barbara Collier
indicated that she will find a folder provided by Lisa McNamara and give that to Mr.
Cannon to help with the project.
2. Leon Hogg indicated that today will be his last meeting with the Historical Preservation
Committee. He is resigning so he can have more time to spend with his wife to do things
together. Mr. Hogg has given and/or volunteered for the City of Euless for about 50 years
now and he has decided to retire. Various members thanked Mr. Hogg for all his services.
Mr. Hogg will be missed bythe Committee.

3. Faye Stinneford reported on the following:
a. The Citizens Police Academy will behaving their annual fundraising barbeque on
Saturday 16, 2017. She had tickets for sale if anyone wanted to purchase tickets.
b. The Citizens Firefighter Academy's annual fundraising barbeque will be on
Saturday, October 21, 2017. Ms.Stinneford has tickets for sale for the dinner if
anyone wants to buy them.
4. Don Martin reported that the Senior Center's free Thanksgiving dinner tickets are being
given out if anyone wanted a ticket.
ADJOURNMENT
Don Martin made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Suzy McCormick seconded the motion.
Motion approved.
