HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-06-05 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board June 5, 2017 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017 in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other Board Members present: Tiffany Smith, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Jason Reyes, and Salman Bhojani. Members absent:John Raab and Mohib Nawab. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Frank Ocampo and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: No visitors. INVOCATION Mr. Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the May 1, 2017 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Doty. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Preserve and McCormick: No items to report. b. John Raab—VOBC and Reflection: Not present. c. Tiffany Smith — Heritage and South Euless: No items to report. d. Roger Sickler- West park& Wilshire: Rail fence needs replacing. e. Jason Reyes—Midway & Blessing Branch: No items to report. f. Salman Bhojani —Bob Eden and Trailwood: No items to report. g. Mohib Nawab —Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr: Not present. h. Randy Jones—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Special Event Report: May 6— HEB Reads kick off, 4,500 people May 20—Movie in the Park— Moana, 150 people June 9—Masterworks Concert—TXStar GC at 7 pm June 24— Movie in the Park—The Secret Life of Pets at 8 pm July 14—Concert at EFLCSC— Forever Young at 7 pm Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Beautification Award a. Chairman Jones announced the June 2017 Residential Yard of the Month winners are Mr. and Mrs. Jose & Ana Anaya at 600 Pauline St. This property has many different species of plants such as Spiral Point Juniper, Begonia, Knock Out Roses, Youpon Hollis, Box Woods and a freshly cut green lawn to add to the curb appeal. The hedges in the front are always neatly trimmed the large Holly tree provides extra shade to the flowerbeds below. We appreciate their effort, and their award will be delivered to them. b. Chairman Jones announced the June 2017 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification award winner goes to Professional Turf Product at 1010 N. Industrial Blvd. The property is weed free and never lets the busy highway litter accumulate on their lawn. The flowerbeds are well maintained and have many different species of plants to offer like Nandin, Pentas, Cleary Texas Sage Maiden grass, and Live Oak Trees throughout the property. We appreciate their effort, and their award will be delivered to them. II. Business of the Tree Board Mr. Sickler reported the following for May: a. Total man hours for May 1-31 = 758 • 401.00 Horticulture • 249.00 Forestry • 84.00 Greenhouse • 25.00 Special Projects • 0.00 Training ➢ Trimmed at Heritage, S. Euless and McCormick Preserve. ➢ Trimmed at P.A.T.S. and SBW main drive entrance. ➢ Removed Pine tree at P.A.T.S. ➢ Trimmed Mid-Cities trail from Bob Eden to Main St. ➢ Stump grinded over 15 stumps in various parks. V. Staff Report—Frank Ocampo • Frank introduction/background info • Summer Camp is going well and very full. • Aquatic Park has opened and has met capacity a few times already. VI. Directors Report—Ray McDonald • Legends Field project update • Western Trails Extension project update. • Legends Field project update. • JA Carr/Kiddie Carr park and Wilshire Park open concept plan.
