Parks and Leisure Services Board
August 7, 2017
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:01 p.m. on
Monday, August 7, 2017, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy
Jones. Other board members present: John Raab, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Salman Bhojani, Jason
Reyes, and Mohib Nawab. Members absent: Tiffany Smith
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager
Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Frank Ocampo, and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson.
Visitors present: None
INVOCATION
Roger Sickler gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the June 5,
2017 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was
seconded by Mr. Reyes. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member Reports
a. Steve Doty—Preserve and McCormick: No items to report.
b. John Raab—VOBC and Reflection: No items to report.
c. Tiffany Smith —Heritage and South Euless: Not present.
d. Roger Sickler- West park& Wilshire: No items to report.
e. Jason Reyes—Midway & Blessing Branch: No items to report.
f. Salman Bhojani —Bob Eden and Trailwood: No items to report.
g. Mohib Nawab—Kiddie Carr &J.A. Carr: No items to report.

i. Chairman Jones reported on the following Special Events:
• June 9- Masterworks concert- Fin City at Texas Star over 200 ppl attended
• June 24—Movie in the Park— Rain out
• July 14—Masterworks concert, 4 Ever Young, Senior Center 100 ppl attended

III. Volunteer of the Quarter
Chairman Jones announced the Volunteer of the Quarter award goes to Mr. Ali and the Mid-cities
Ismaili Volunteers. This group of men gave us much needed assistance during this years Arbor Daze
event. We desperately needed a reliable group of people to man the parking lots which caused us
many issues last year. These guys stepped up and took control, and ensured that it went much
smoother this year. They have pledged to continue to help us and be a friend of the department for
future events. Mr. Ali was not present, his award will be delivered to him.
IV. Beautification Award of the Month
a. Chairman Jones announced that the July 2017 Residential Beautification Award of the
Month goes to Anthony Peters at 705 Jonathan Drive. The property has many different
species of plants such as Caladiums, Juniper, Sweet Potato Vine, Periwinkle, Fern and
Fringe Flowers just to name a few. Potted plants line the landscape and give it an extra
touch of beautification. The large Live Oak trees and plush green lawn add to the
landscape and really make it stand out. Their award will be delivered to them.
b. Chairman Jones announced the July 2017 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification
Award of the Month goes to MTA and Curry Printing at 1107 and 1109 Pamela Drive. The
landscape and plant species are always very healthy and add to the beautification of this
city. This landscape offers a variety of plants such as Drift Roses, Youpon Hollis, Burford
Holly, Asian Jasmine and Little Jen Magnolias. Their award will be delivered to them.
c. The August 2017 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to Jimmy and Debra
Robinson at 207 Mint Lane. Simple and clean cut is the best way to describe this yard.
This property offers large trees and shrubs such as Live Oak, Japenese Maple, Azaleas,
Maiden grass and Burford Holly. The large trees and plush green lawn help the landscape
stand out amongst others.Their award will be delivered to them.
d. The August 2017 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of the Month goes
to Federal Heath Sign Company at 2300 State Hwy 121. This landscape is well maintained
and looks its very best. The landscape has many large trees, ground cover and shrubbery
that are very healthy. The species of plants located on the property include Like Oak,
Crape Myrtle, Soft Leaf Yucca, Nandina and Vincu that adds a lot of color to the
landscape. Their award will be delivered to them.
V. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for June &July:
a. Total man hours for June 1-30 =669 hours

➢ Trimmed trees on Harwood Rd. medians.
➢ Trimmed Main St. R.O.W.'s from Harwood Rd. to Mid-cities Blvd.
➢ Trimmed trees at Fleet and P.A.C.S. Buildings.
➢ Removed Crepe Myrtles at Dr. Pepper Stars Center.
➢ Worked with HEB Summer Youth Work Program at Pauline St. greenhouse.
b. Total man hours for July 1-31 = 719 hours
• 288.00 Horticulture
• 232.00 Forestry
• 69.00 Greenhouse
• 110.00 Special Projects
• 20.00 Training
➢ Planted 12 Crepe Myrtles at P.A.T.S. and Police and Courts.
➢ Trimmed trees at Police and Courts.
➢ Removed tree limbs in Parks due to storms.
➢ Removed suckers on Crepe Myrtles in Medians and Police and Courts.
