HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-09-11 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board September 11, 2017 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:59 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017 in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Roger Sickler, and Mohib Nawab. Members absent:Tiffany Smith,Steve Doty,Jason Reyes, and Salman Bhojani. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Frank Ocampo and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Library Administrator Sherry Knight INVOCATION Mr.Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the August 7, 2017 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Preserve and McCormick: Not present. b. John Raab—VOBC and Reflection: No items to report. c. Tiffany Smith—Heritage and South Euless: Not present. d. Roger Sickler-West park &Wilshire: No items to report. e. Jason Reyes—Midway&Blessing Branch: Not present. f. Salman Bhojani—Bob Eden and Trailwood: Not present. g. Mohib Nawab—Kiddie Carr&J.A. Carr: No items to report. h. Randy Jones—Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Special Event Report: August 19—Drive in Move at PATS—100 people Uocomin>=: September 15: Concert in the Park—Colt and the old 45's at Leon Hogg at 7 pm October 7:Junk in the Trunk—Euless Family Life Senior Center 8am —1 pm October 7:Junior Anglers Fishing—Wilshire park 9 am—12 pm Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 III. Beautification Award a. Chairman Jones announced the September 2017 Residential Yard of the Month winner is Mrs. Joanna Arber at 515 Vine St.This property has many different species of plants and is well groomed and maintained no matter what the season or weather. The landscape design has Boxwoods, Vinca, Hydrangea, Crepe Myrtle, and a plush green lawn to add to the curb appeal. We appreciate their effort, and their award will be delivered to them. b. Chairman Jones announced the September 2017 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification award winner goes to McDonalds at 105 Airport Fwy. This landscape has many species of plants that are drought tolerant, such as Barberry shrubs, Fireball Nandina, Esperanza plant, Crepe Myrtle and decorative rock throughout the property. This water wise approach is appreciated during the summer months to ensure the community as a whole is conserving as much water as possible. We appreciate their effort, and their award will be delivered to them. II. Business of the Tree Board Mr. Sickler reported the following for August: a. Total man hours for August 1-31 =763 • 504.00 Horticulture • 96.00 Forestry • 116.00 Greenhouse • 47.00 Special Projects • 0.00 Training ➢ Trimmed trees on West Pipeline. Raised trees at Midway Park. ➢ Removed Mesquite tree limb at J.A. Carr Park. ➢ Removed fallen tree limbs throughout park system. i Planted six trees at City Hall complex behind Finance building. V. Staff Report—Frank Ocampo • Pool season is over,over 40,000 visitors over the summer. • New Recreation Specialist announced—Sonja Howard. Staff Report—Sherry Knight • Library remodel introduction and presentation. Vi. Other New Business No new business. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input.
