HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-06-01 TEEN COURT ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES i MEETING OF JUNE 1, 2017 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall on the 1st day of June 2017,with the following members present: HURST: Jen Tucker, Aaron Switzer EULESS: Robin Edwards, Katie Shue BEDFORD: Kathleen Toms, Jane_t Key TEEN REPRESENTATIVES: Hurst Council Liaison — Bedford Council Liaison—Dave Gebhart Euless Council Liaison— — HEB Teen Court Coordinator— Mindy Eichorst HEB Teen Court Assistant Also present: Hurst City Secretary— Rita Frick Euless Staff Liaison— Bedford Court Manager—Doug Campbell Hurst Court Manager— HEB Teen Court Teen Liaison- Bedford Administrative Services Director- CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kathleen Toms called the meeting to order at 6:08 p.m. with a quorum of six Board Members present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) April 6, 2017 Regular Meeting Janet Key made a motion to approve the April 6, 2017 minutes and Robin Edwards seconded the motion and all were in favor. I 2. Introductions No new introductions at this meeting. OLD BUSINESS 3. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2017 annual Teen Court Gala. The speaker at the Gala was great and very charismatic and well liked by all who attended. A suggestion was made to have more mid-range silent auction items. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst mentioned that $6831.17 was raised with the tickets, sponsors, donations, and silent auction items. A total of$6,880.72 was spent on the Gala which was a shortfall of less than $50. She mentioned this was one of the most successful Galas and several attendees bought items from the silent auction and participated in the live auction. A suggestion of possibly raising the individual ticket price from $15 to $20 was made. Another suggestion was to try to keep the venue of the Hurst Conference Center for next years' Scholarship Gala. The City of Bedford City Council Liaison Dave Gebhart mentioned the idea of having challenge coins. NEW BUSINESS 4. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2018 annual Teen Court Gala. The suggestion to move forward and raise the price of an individual ticket from $15 to $20 was brought up again and Robin Edwards made a motion to raise the price $5. Janet Key seconded the motion and all were in favor. All Members present discussed how they would like to keep the Scholarship Gala at Hurst Conference Center and to check and see if any April dates were available. Janet Key made a motion to check on either April 12 or April 19, 2018 and Jen Tucker seconded the motion. All were in favor. An idea to keep All for G0000000d Silent Auction Company for the 2018 Scholarship Gala started and all Members discussed it was a good idea to keep them assisting with the silent auction and live auction. All Members present will be looking for potential sponsors and donations and will try to have them early. 5. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board meeting. The next advisory board meeting will be on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall. Jen Tucker made a motion and Aaron Switzer seconded the motion and all were in favor. REPORTS I Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst went over the Coordinator's Report and Finance Report for the month of April and May 2017. The income and expenses from the Gala will show up under the months of June and July and will be available at the next Advisory Board Meeting. ADJOURNMENT i Jen Tucker entered a motion for the meeting to be adjourned. Robin Edwards seconded the motion and all voted in favor.
