HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-02-21 (Worksession) CITY OF EULESS CITY COUNCIL MID-WINTER WORKSESSION FEBRUARY 21-22, 1997 CLIFFVIEW RESORT, LAKE WHITNEY, TEXAS CALL TO ORDER Mayor Saleh called the Mid-Winter Worksession to order at 10:30 a.m. at the Cliffview Resort near Lake Whitney, Texas. City Council Members in attendance included Mayor Mary Lib Saleh and Council Members Carl Tyson, Leon Hogg, Charlie Miller and Katie Edwards. Council Member Glenn Walker arrived at 3:15 p.m. Mayor Pro Tern Bobby Baker was not in attendance. Staff members present included City Manager Tom Hart, Assistant City Manager Joe Hennig and City Secretary Susan Crim. The Council Members discussed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats facing the City and then worked together to write a vision statement for the City of Euless as follows: "Our vision for Euless, Texas, is a progressive community of 50,000 to 60,000 people with economic diversity that is recognized for its upscale shopping,cultural,educational and recreational amenities, a revitalized Main Street, and community planning that focuses on the quality of life with strong emphasis on public safety. We envision becoming a National Amateur Sports Center. We foresee new job opportunities in health care, industrial and technological commerce and hotel, motel and retail trades. The City's proactive leadership will maintain a sound fiscal policy, a balance between `'•40- single and multi-family housing and a compatible business relationship with the D/FW Airport and our surrounding communities." The Council Members reviewed the strategic plan and its update. They discussed the "Raving Fan" program and related it to each of the various City departments by listing ways in which each area could be improved. The Council Members suggested names for each of the holes at the Golf Course at Texas Star and for each of the rooms in the Conference Centre at Texas Star. Specific goals for the City of Euless were itemized by the Council Members,and the following mission statement was agreed upon: "THE MISSION OF THE CITY OF EULESS IS: To provide citizens the most efficient services possible that protect and enhance quality of life, through planning and visionary leadership."
