When disposing of oil that may not harden in the refrigerator, soak up the oil with paper towels or newspapers and dispose in the trash. Similarly, use paper towels to wipe off excess oil and grease from dirty dishes. Greasy foods to avoid putting down the kitchen drain: • Meat fats • Cooking oil • Shortening • Butter and margarine • Gravy and sauces • Food scraps • Baking goods • Dairy products Other items to never wash down your drain or toilet: • Coffee grinds • Egg shells • Large chunks of food garbage • Produce stickers • Wet wipes • Feminine hygiene products • Paper towels • Flushable cat litter • Motor oil, transmission fluids, anti-freeze or other toxic chemicals • Solvents, paints, turpentine, nail polish, polish remover • Flammable or explosive substances • Corrosive substances that are either acidic or caustic • Prescription and over-the-counter medications Being mindful of what goes down your drain pipes will benefit you and your neighborhood. Ice Fest Saturday, December 2, 3 - 5 p.m. Dr Pepper StarCenter 1400 S. Pipeline Road Holiday fun for the whole family! Watch a spectacular holiday ice show and then ice skate with Santa. Tickets are $6 for general seating and Santa skate. Tickets are $15 for reserved seating on the ice and Santa skate. This year's Ice Fest features two-time U.S. National Champion Ashley Cain and National Medalist Timothy LeDuc, National Champion Amber Glenn and two-time National Medalist Aleksei Krasnozhon, plus special guest Santa Claus. 3 - 4 p.m. Holiday Ice Show 4 - 5 p.m. Skate with Santa and the Cast Fats and Grease Don't Belong in the Drain As you prepare for your holiday parties and family gatherings, it's important to remember how to safeguard your drain pipes and city sewer lines. You should never pour Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) down the sink, garbage disposal or toilet. FOG sticks to the interior surface of the sewer pipes, hardens over time and eventually may cause sewage to backup and spill in your home. Running hot water as you pour the grease down the drain only breaks up grease temporarily, because as it goes down the line it cools and hardens - in either your pipes or the sewer line. et-dec2017.qxp 10/25/2017 4:27 PM Page 3 December Happenings at the Senior Center The Euless Family Life Senior Center requires that all participants become a member.
