CALL TO ORDER
A Special Called Meeting of the Euless City Council was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, September 15, 1998, at Texas Star Conference Center, 1400 Texas Star
Parkway, Euless, Texas. Those present included Mayor Mary Lib Saleh, Mayor Pro Tern
Charlie Miller, Council Members Carl Tyson, Leon Hogg, Glenn Walker, Katie Edwards,
Deputy City Manager Joe Hennig, and City Secretary Susan Crim.
BRIEFING ON WINE SALES COMMITTEE PROGRESS
Mayor Pro Tern Charlie Miller reported that a political action committee has formed to
pursue an election for the sale of wine for off-premise consumption. The co-chairmen are
Robert McMillon and Bill Byers. They plan to begin gathering signatures on a petition on
October 9, with an election to be held in December. Various grocery store chains have
contributed funds to the committee, and the stores are going to allow the committee
members to gather signatures at their locations in Euless. Citizens are being enlisted to
assist with the petition drive. The committee has discussed with city staff the possibility
of placing information in the Mayor's Newsletter and the water bills regarding the proposed
election.
Mayor Saleh pointed out that the July, 1997, issue of the Mayor's Newsletter contained an
article regarding the Wine Sales Study Committee. She stated that the October, 1998,
edition was currently being written and it would be timely to include educational information
about wine sales in it.
Note: Council Member Bobby Baker and Judge Boring arrived and Deputy City Manager
Joe Hennig and City Secretary Susan Crim left the meeting.
CLOSED MEETING
The meeting convened into closed session at 6:25 p.m. to discuss personnel matters,
Municipal Court Judge position, as authorized by Section 551.072 of the Texas
Government Code.
ADJOURN
The special meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
