HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-03-30 (Parks at Texas Star Phase III) Parks at Texas Star—Phase III Committee Meeting City Hall—Pre-Council Room Wednesday March 30,2005 7:30 a.m. Call to Order The Parks at Texas Star—Phase III Committee meeting was called to order at 7:37 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in the Pre-Council Room of the Euless City Hall building by Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald. Members Present City Council - Mayor Mary Lib Saleh, Council Member Carl Tyson, Council Member Charlie Miller and Council Member Leon Hogg Parks and Leisure Services Board- Chairman Eric Owens, Mike Daniel and Stacey Hollinger City Staff- City Manager Joe Hennig, Deputy City Manager Gary McKamie, Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Johnnie Green, Recreation Manager Suzanne Hendrickson, Athletic/Aquatic Supervisor Chris Thames and Administrative Secretary Linda Lux I. Update on Phase III Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald gave an update on the Parks at Texas Star—Phase III and said the project is almost completed. II. Proposed Art Work for Veterans Field Mayor Mary Lib Saleh discussed the proposed art work for the new Veterans Field at the Parks at Texas Star. She said the location for the art work would be in the 12' x 10' alcove between the two stairs leading into the new stadium. The art work would be in three (3)pieces with the bottom being a pentagon with a medallion for each of the five (5)branches of the military. A replica of the Liberty Bell would set on top of the pentagon and then there would be an Eagle lighting atop the bell. Parks at Texas Star—Phase III Committee Meeting Page 2 March 30,2005 III. Walk of Champions Ray McDonald also discussed the Walk of Champions and suggested that a policy or criteria be formed as well as a committee for selecting the individuals to be inducted into the Walk of Champions. After some discussion it was suggested that Ray McDonald and Johnnie Green would represent city staff and one (1) City Council Member, one (1) Park Board Member and one (1)Euless resident would be selected to this committee. The committee members, after being selected, will meet on an as needed basis. The inductees into the Walk of Champions should be selected from individuals who have been involved in youth sports currently or in past years. City Manager Joe Hennig suggested that a policy and/or procedure with criteria be drafted and then sent out to this committee to review and make any needed corrections before being finalized. IV. Other Business/Updates Ray McDonald also said the Preserve at McCormick Park project started this week and we hope to have this park completed by fall. Ray, Johnnie Green and Terry Boaz went out on Monday and started marking the trails for this project. Park Board Member Stacey Hollinger said Media Day is scheduled for June 2, 2005, for the new Euless LoneStars and opening day will be on June 7th. He thanked all the Parks and Community Services staff for their help and said this new team and the Parks at Texas Star will be recognized nationally due to players coming in from all over the country to play on this team. V. Scheduled Grand Opening for Veterans Field Ray McDonald said the scheduled opening for Veterans Field is November 12, 2005 at the Parks at Texas Star.
