After considerable research and much discussion as to how to im-
prove our garbage and trash (solid wastes) pickups, the City Council
has arrived at three alternatives.
1 . Curb-side pickup in plastic bags , with a reduction in
rate to the home owner to $2.00 per month. Sixteen
bags will be given free initially. Thereafter, bags
will be available at the fire stations at approximate-
ly .05 cents each (current cost) . Arrangements will
be made for side_-of-the-house pickup at no additional
cost for anyone who is legitimately unable to carry
garbage to cu.rb-side due to old age or infirmity. The
efficiency of this type service will permit once a
month pickup of articles too large for normal weekly
pickup. The plastic bags used by the City are design-
ed to disintegrate after a set period of time, and are
bio-degradable.
2. Continue the service as is at the present rate. Curb
and cans or bags - $2.50.
3. Side-of-the-house pickup at $5.00 per month. If this
alternative is followed, every residence in town will
be required to subscribe to this service at the $5.00
rate. The reason this is necessary is due to the fact
that we do not have the staff or facilities to admin-
ister or operate an optional pickup. The rate of $5.00
per month is the minim�f, r a non-loss operation.
Fort Worth and North Richland Hills , who have this ser-
vice, are presently considering $5.00 minimum because
they are operating at a lr,ss with rates under $5.00.
Please consider the above three alternatives carefully before you
vote. This is a very important matter, and I strongly urge your care-
ful consideration and prompt return of your vote.
