MAYOR'S NEWSLETTER -- AUGUST 1982
The first half of 1982 has been a good one for the City of Euless. Our city is
still growing and prospering and attracting persons interested in living, playing,
and working in Euless. The population of Euless has grown from 1980 Census
figures of 24,002 to 1982 North Central Texas Council of Governments figures of
26,050. Residential housing permits were up 79% over 1981 through the end of
May. City staff has been able to handle the additional workload of this growth
without increases in the number of personnel, and the City's budget is in good
order. As the 1982-83 fiscal year budget preparation begins, things look good for
the City of Euless.
RATE INCREASES. There have been a number of utility rate increases: Texas
Power and Light Company, Lone Star Gas Company, and Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company have all been granted rate increases by the State agencies
that regulate such matters. The Texas Public Utility Commission establishes
rates for Texas Power and Light Company and Southwestern Bell Telephone
Company. The Texas Railroad Commission regulates Lone Star Gas Company.
Through careful planning and conservation, the City of Euless has been able to not
have a rate increase in water or sewer rates; however, a water rate increase is
anticipated this Fall.
EULESS FIRE DEPARTMENT. The Euless Fire Department participated in the
Muscular Dystrophy Fund Raising Drive on June 26th, and collected the sum of
$7,606.12. A letter was received from the Muscular Dystrophy Association which
states, "The Euless Firefighters collected $7,606.12 in this event. This is the
largest amount collected in the Tarrant County area." The check will be
presented on Labor Day at the Jerry Lewis Annual Telethon Drive. We are
extremely proud of our fine fire department. We have also received many letters
of appreciation for the assistance our fire and police departments gave to Euless
citizens and business people during the May flooding.
DUMPSTER SERVICE. The City of Euless furnishes three large dumpsters for the
convenience of our residents. Within the past three months there has been a
problem with people dumping articles on the ground around the dumpsters, as well
as with vastly overloading the dumpsters. When this is done, work crews must
spend extra time in cleaning up the mess. If the situtation continues the
dumpsters may have to be removed. Please help out with this problem.
NEW WATER TOWER. The City plans to build a two million gallon water storage
tower on North Main Street near Glade Road, in an effort to have an ample
supply of water for future Euless Citizens.

LIBRARY NEWS: The Friends of the Euless Library will hold their annual book
sale on Friday and Saturday, August 27th and 28th, 1982, at Northeast Mall.
Proceeds from last year's sale have been used to buy materials for a puppet
theater (built by John Key), puppets, a multi-displayer rack, and books for the
Genealogy Collection. The Book Sale is a good opportunity to pick up bargains
in used books and benefit the Library, too.
An original painting by local artist Jana Hurder was presented to the Library
recently by North Hills Mall. The landscape was exhibited at the Mall during the
Trinity Arts Foundation show in the Spring.
WATER RATE INCREASE PROPOSED. There will be a Public Hearing on
Tuesday, August 24, 1982, at 8:00 P.M., in the Council Chambers of the Euless
Municipal Building, for the purpose of receiving citizen input regarding a proposed
water rate increase for the City of Euless. The cost of water which the City of
Euless purchases from the Trinity River Authority has increased over the charges
in 1981 and early 1982. The City is now paying more for the water it purchases
than it is charging citizens. Therefore, there is a need for an adjustment in the
cost of water to customers.
OTHER PUBLIC HEARINGS. There will also be a Public Hearing on August 24th
at approximately 8:00 P.M. for review of Revenue Sharing Funds and the proposed
Budget for Fiscal Year 1982-83. NO TAX RATE INCREASE IS PROPOSED FOR
1982-83 BY THE CITY; however, there have been some changes in valuation by
the Tarrant County Appraisal District Office.
Sincerely,
jyHaroldt?
