.,. EULESS CITY HALL
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2008
COUNCIL AND STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT
Mayor Mary Lib Saleh and Council Members Leon Hogg and Perry Bynum, City Manager
Gary McKamie, Deputy City Manager Loretta Getchell, Director of Public Works Ron
Young, City Engineer Robert Barker, Public Works Manager J. T. Ackerman and City
Secretary Susan Crim.
CALL TO ORDER
Director of Public Works Ron Young called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and stated
that as part of the City of Euless five year capital project planning process, city staff has
been assessing the few remaining road sections which exist without curb, gutter, and
underground drainage. The section of Baze Road between Priest Lane and Glade
Road falls into that category.
Ron Young and City Engineer Robert Barker presented the City of Euless Master
Thoroughfare Plan description for Baze Road. The plan, which is nearly 10 years old,
provided for a 37 foot concrete street with left turn lanes at intersections, curb and
gutter, and sidewalks. The residents were nearly unanimous in voicing their opposition
to the plan.
Following lengthy discussions, general consensus was reached on the following
thoughts:
Residents want to see Baze Road improved.
A more typical street section without left turn lanes is preferred. Staff suggestion
as to width is 31 feet which is the width of a typical residential street.
Residents want a curb and gutter street with underground drainage.
Residents want wide sidewalks on both the east and west sides of the street.
Care should be taken to protect as many trees as possible.
Landscaping and lighting are both desirable.
Parking should not be allowed on the new portion of Baze Road.

City staff will commission warrant studies to determine whether stop signs may
be warranted at certain intersections on Baze Road. Interested residents will be
notified of the results of the study by the end of January, 2009.
City staff will commission speed studies to determine the appropriate speed limit
on Gateway Boulevard.
City staff will study the intersection of Baze Road at Mid-Cities Boulevard with
regard to visibility issues.
Staff will study striping options for the portion of Baze Road south of Priest Lane
to better define the wide street as a two lane street. One suggestion was to stripe
the street for bicycle lanes.
The Police Department will be asked to increase traffic enforcement along Baze
Road to address speeding.
Future meetings will be held as necessary to update residents on the timetable for
improvements and the proposed design elements for the road. The fiscal year 2009
budget provides no funding for this project. Planning is in the very earliest stage so
future meetings will not occur for quite some time.
ADJOURN
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
