HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-11-02 i i I TEEN COURT ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES MEETING OF NOVEMBER 2, 2017 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall on the 2nd day of November 2017, with the following members present: HURST: Bien Camungol, Lorrie Dickerson, Aaron Switzer EULESS: Robin Edwards, Renu Sloan BEDFORD: Phoenix Sheffield, Kathleen Toms TEEN REPRESENTATIVES: Hurst Council Liaison —Trasa Cobern l Bedford Council Liaison— Dave Gebhart Euless Council Liaison — Eddie Price HEB Teen Court Coordinator— Mindy Eichorst HEB Teen Court Assistant— Also present: Hurst Deputy City Secretary—Cynthia Singleton i Euless Staff Liaison — Bedford Court Manager— Hurst Court Manager— HEB Teen Court Teen Liaison- Bedford Administrative Services Director- CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kathleen Toms called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. with a quorum of seven Board Members present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) June 1, 2017 Regular Meeting Lorrie Dickerson made a motion to approve the June 1, 2017 minutes and Renu Sloan seconded the motion and all were in favor. 2. Introductions 1 i I New Advisory Board Members, Bien Camungol, Hurst, and Phoenix Sheffield, Bedford, were present. OLD BUSINESS 3. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2017 annual Teen Court Gala. There was no more to discuss with the 2017 Gala. NEW BUSINESS 4. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2018 annual Teen Court Gala. The date of the 2018 Teen Court Scholarship Gala was announced and will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018. Chairperson Kathleen Toms talked about finding a speaker, someone local and is a motivational speaker, for the Gala. She asked if the Advisory Board Members could bring names to the January or February meeting. Chairperson Toms also mentioned that there will be two different committees, Scholarship Committee and Gala Committee, the Advisory Board Members could serve on, if time permitted. Chairperson Toms also mentioned she would like to propose raising the maximum amount of scholarship money the teens can receive from $1000 to $1250. After discussion amongst the Members, Aaron Switzer made a motion for the maximum amount of scholarship money a teen volunteer recipient can receive will be $1500 and Lorrie Dickerson seconded that motion. All were in favor. Silent auction items and donations are needed and it was discussed about going to local shops and businesses. Renu Sloan mentioned that the Advisory Board Members need to start seeking silent auction items and sponsors as soon as possible. Vice-Chairperson Lorrie Dickerson mentioned the company All For G0000000d that has worked with the Advisory Board the past couple of years. She explained that this company assists with the silent and live auction and brings in jewelry, sports memorabilia, and trips to auction. All Advisory Board Members were in favor of moving forward with having All For G0000000d assist with the 2018 Scholarship Gala. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst will check with them about the date. Councilman Dave Gebhart, City of Bedford, presented an idea of ordering and selling challenge coins at the Scholarship Gala. He suggested a limited edition coin that could be sold throughout the year also. 5. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board meeting. The next Advisory Board meeting will be on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall. REPORTS i i Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst went over the Coordinator's Report and Finance Report for the months of June, July, August, and September 2017. ADJOURNMENT Robin Edwards entered a motion for the meeting to be adjourned. Aaron Switzer seconded the motion and all voted in favor.
