Goodwill's reality
Many thanks to Bob Ray Sanders for his Wednesday column ,
("Goodwill's image vs.the reality") on Goodwill's attempt to
build a superstore in Euless, only to be blocked by the Planning '
and Zoning Commission.
As is so often the case,Sanders'exposure to the reality of `
Goodwill has made another loyal supporter of this agency that
often suffers from a ragtag,down-and-out image.When people
don't have the facts, they see a negative stereotype.
Goodwill is simply another shopping option for customers
seeking good used merchandise. These shoppers may be on
Social Security,or they may shop at upscale stores. But when ,
they're looking for vintage clothing or jewelry,Goodwill is their
choice.
The zoning commission has ignored the reality of Goodwill as
a source of training and employment for the city's disabled resi-
dents. As a former professional staff person at Goodwill,I see the
wasted talent of these individuals that could benefit the commu-
nity. They want to be self-sufficient and have jobs like everyone
else. t
