Hold the infant facedown
on your forearm,with the
infant's head in your hand,
resting your arm on your
leg or lap for support.
Deliver up to five back
blows with the heel of your
free hand. .�
Turn the infant over and
give up to five chest thrusts
on the lower half of the
breastbone.,
Alternate five back blows
and five chest thrusts until
the object is expelled or the
infant becomes unrespon-
sive.
If the infant becomes
unresponsive,begin car-
diopulmonary resuscitation.
Each time you open the air-
way,look for a foreign
object and remove it.Con-
tinue rescue breaths and
chest compressions.
Call 911 after about one
minute.
If you can see the object
in the infant's mouth,take it
out.But do not stick a fin-
ger down the throat in an
attempt to find it.
