Euless resident Katie Brown, president of the Lung Cancer Support Community, the
largest online cancer support community in existence with over 2,000 members and 3
million visitors a month, has been successful in getting the Governor of Texas, Rick
Perry, to proclaim that NOVEMBER is LUNG CANCER AWARENESS MONTH in the
state of Texas.
Governor Perry sent by mail the official proclamation document November 1, 2005 to
the attention of Katie Brown.
We encourage all citizens of Texas to recognize this important month.
Lung Cancer kills more people each year than prostate, colon and breast cancer
COMBINED, yet is the least funded and least recognized. With the recent loss of
Peter Jennings and in light of recent diagnosis of young non smoking women like Dana
Reeve, it is clear that lung cancer is not just a smoker's disease. 50% of people
diagnosed with lung cancer are non smokers and never smokers.
