HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-01-20 MAR m 6 1992 Regular Meeting CITY OFEULESS Beautify Euless Everyday January 20 , 1992 CALL TO ORDER: The Regular Meeting of the "BEE" Committee was called to order at 7 :05pm at the Ruth Millican Center by Leon Hogg, Euless Parks and Recreation Board Chairman. ATTENDEES: Leon Hogg Louise Griffin Eric Owens Diane Eggers Tom Kindinger Rick Herold INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS AND GUESTS: Leon Hogg introduced Eric Owens. Mr. Owens is a member of the Parks and Leisure Services Board and will report on B.E.E. activities. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: Minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. VOLUNTEER HOURS: City Volunteer Coordinator Diane Eggers handed out volunteer roll call forms and members were asked to fill in the appropriate information. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Brief discussion was held on the Christmas Tree Recycling. All members thought the Recycling was tremendously successful and all expressed continued interest in continuing the project. The Committee said that their were some problems, mainly late arriving Christmas trees. Mr. Hogg said that conservatively 6,000 trees were mulched. It was noted that the recycling was made possible by B.E.E. , the Euless Lions Club, Texas Utilities, City Garbage Service and the Euless Parks and Leisure Services Department and Board. Tom Kindinger reported that he had been by Wilshire Elementary and they have been awarded the Beautification Award of the Month for January 1992 . Tom invited all members by the school to look at their new landscaping. Everyone agreed it was an outstanding selection. It was determined that no award would be given for February, but Tom said if a good candidate did arise, he would make necessary arrangements. Mr. Herold said that the Small Business Administration Tree Grant Program had been changed to the Villages of Bear Creek Park. Mr. Herold said that the Grant Program thru S.B.A. will be an ongoing one, and funding for 1993 will be available soon for new projects. He mentioned State Highway 10 and State Highway 360 as prime examples of potential projects. February--Welcome Back and New Friends Month Members discussed about the February as the first recruitment month for 1992 . It was mentioned that due to the time of season, another recruitment month might be set, epically to take advantage of upcoming B.E.E. projects and "Arbor Daze" . Tom said that all former members should be called and he suggested that each member call five former members. All in attendance thought that was a good idea. Diane Eggers said she would said out lists within the next couple of weeks. Diane Eggers said she would assist in the meeting. Scrap books of the past success of B.E.E. would be available. The normal meeting would be kept short to allow for recruitment and socialization. Past Members will be invited to share stories of their success. It was mentioned that projects for beautification by made at the February Meeting. Rick said he would have a suggestion or two. NEW BUSINESS: Mr. Hogg asked each member to try to bring two new friends each and every meeting. All members said they would do their best. With no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:46p.m.
