F J 1*) REGULAR MEETING U T; -4, "BEE" COMMITTEE MAY 20, 1991 CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the BEE Committee was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at Simmons Recreation Center by Chairperson Dee Heilman. ATTENDEES: Dee Heilman Irene Rosecrans Jay Heilman Betty Yarbrough Louise Webb Rick Herold Marge Crow Louise Griffin Tom Kindinger Althea Staks Randy Marsh INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS/NEW MEMBERS: Louise Griffin was introduced to the committee and Randy Marsh was greeted. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING: Minutes of the last meeting were approved as read. TREASURER'S REPORT: Discussion was held on funds in the BEE Committee's accounts. A balance of $6,638.72 was reported for the Recycling Account. VOLUNTEER HOURS: Chairperson Dee Heilman requested that members turn in volunteer hours to be recorded. The total volunteer hours reported from November 1990 through May, 1991 are 1,075. OLD BUSINESS: An expansion of the Christmas tree lighting and Christmas displays were discussed and Dee reported that Tom Hart had requested the entire City Complex be outlined in lights. A nativity scene was discussed and adding to the other Christmas figures would be a project for the committee to ensue. There was a discussion on attendees for the Keep Texds Beautiful seminar to be held in Plano in June. As KTB had not sent the forms to chairperson, Dee Heilman, Dee reported that she would call and inform the members and inquire at the next meeting on who would attend. The job program for disadvantaged youth was discussed and Randy Marsh presented to the Committee the purpose of the program. He stated that for the past two years Euless had been a participant in the program and that if City Council approved funding that the BEE Committee would contribute funds from the Recycle Funds. He report that Del Norte Technology had begun collecting recyclables from its employees and delivering them to the recycle center so that they could contribute to the funding of this program. &'' ueeee "We're Building a Beautiful Tomorrow" YARD OF THE MONTH: Debra Maxwell sent a Yard of the Month report and signs had been placed and photos placed in the Library. NEW BUSINESS: Future beautification projects were discussed. The four corners at Highways 157 and 10 were to be worked on along with business owners at that location. The Villages of Bear Creek has a homeowners association and there was discussion on how the committee could work with that group in beautification efforts along the major thoroughfares. Rick reported that some funds would possibly be available to aid in the beautification along Highway 360. COMMITTEE REPORTS: RECYCLING: Marge Crow gave a report on recycling and that it appeared that there has been an increase of materials being taken to the Convenience Center at the City Garbage location. MEDIA/PUBLICITY: Marge Crow reported that there was a recent article in the Fort Worth Star Telegram about the landscaping at the City Complex that shows Euless spelled out and it is visible from the Airport Freeway. There was also a recent article about Jimmy Beck's landscaping using the zeroscape technology. EDUCATION: Althea Staks reported that she would deliver the plaque to Bear Creek Elementary School that was awarded by the committee for their efforts in landscaping around the school. GOV. ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS PROGRAM: Marge Crow reported that there was an upcoming meeting in Plano by the Keep Texas Beautiful committee. She said she would bring more information on it to the next meeting. The committee did not enter the awards program this year. LANDSCAPING: Rick Herold gave a report on landscaping. Highway 10, 360 and Villages of Bear Creek. ADOPT MAIN STREET AND HWY 10 BEAUTIFICATION: Due to construction on Highway 10 the committee will await its completion before undertaking any beautification in this area. BEAUTIFICATION: Due to the absence of Marland Ernest, Tom Kindinger has agreed to undertake the project of awarding businesses in their beautification efforts and will give a report at the next meeting. LAW ENFORCEMENT: Jay Heilman had nothing new to report. Dee Heilman served refreshments, Rick served coffee and the meeting adjourned at 8:30. w4\rosecran.\beemin
