CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the BEE Committee was called to
order at 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall in the Council Conference Room by
Chairperson Dee Heilman.
ATTENDEES: Dee Heilman Irene Rosecrans
Alice Ernest Betty Yarbrough
Marland Ernest Rick Herold
Marge Crow Althea Staks
Tom Kindinger
The following corrections were made to the minutes of the last
meeting: Rick Herold was absent from the meeting, but Betty Yarbrough
did attend. Rick Herold said that the "Don't Bag It Program" in the
minutes said that it was "Rick's" Program and that minutes have been
corrected to reflect only "Don't Bag It Program. " Althea Staks
reported that the minutes from last meeting be changed to: Bear Creek
Elementary spent $5,400 on a landscaping project which was completed
on May 26, 1990.
...... TREASURER'S REPORT: Marge Crow gave the treasurer's report in the
absence of Louise Webb. There were expenditures in the amount of
$441.83 for January. There is a balance of $5.674.09 in the regular
account and $6,029.47 in the Recycling Account.
VOLUNTEER HOURS: Dee Heilman requested that members turn in volunteer
hours to Irene who reported that as of this meeting there is a total
volunteer hours reported of 1,355 hours from January of last year thru
February 18, 1991. It was suggested that Volunteer hours should be
accumulated from the Committee's fiscal year beginning in October 1990
and next months figures will be recorded from that date.
OLD BUSINESS: Irene mentioned that the Committee had discussed using
some of the recycling money to purchase a statue or marker for the
city from the BEE Committee. Dee said she would talk to Julia about
some ideas. Alice asked Rick if the funds might be used on Highway 10
in a matching funds project. The committee will discuss this more at
future meetings.
Sparkle month was again discussed. Irene asked if Helen had written
the letter that was voted last month to inquire of City Officials if
it could be restarted. Members of the committee were appointed to
meet with City Officials to see if any plan could be worked out and
they will report at the next meeting. If unable to get City help in a
"Sparkle" plan it was discussed to rename the plan and instigate
1,,... alternative plans.
dead "We're Building a Beautiful Tomorrow"
The Leisure Faire booth was discussed and Dee said she would order "sk
imprinted balloons @ $90.00 or $94.00 per 1,000 to add to the balloons
that Marge Crow has stored at her home. Dee also mentioned ordering
pencils with the Bee name imprinted on them. The bee that was given
out last year as a memento was negated as the cost of 46 cents each
was prohibitive for the committee to consider at this time. A drawing
of some kind was suggested, with perhaps free meals, or anything else
the committee would decide at a later date.
Rick Herold will contribute 500 trees in conjunction with the 1+1=2
program and the BEE committee will help in that distribution. The
1+1=2 program booth will be placed next to the BEE booth and BEE
members will be available to help in both booths.
The "Don't Bag It Program" will be presented March 8th at Midway Park
Recreation Center, and Rick asked if the BEE committee would Co-fund
the distribution of mail-outs for that campaign. This will be an
educational program encouraging residents to let clippings fall on the
lawns.
Althea Staks reported that her husband who is a Council member was not
aware of the cancellation of Sparkle month. Althea also reported that
the efforts and beautification through landscaping at Bear Creek
Elementary school should be recognized, and the Committee will present
a plaque at a PTA meeting.
RECYCLING: Marge Crow showed some clippings from newspapers
concerning recycling from other cities including the City of
Grapevine.
YOUTH: Althea showed the KTB patch which was given a number of years
ago and the committee authorized her ordering more patches through
Clean Texas.
LANDSCAPING: 150 bald cypress trees have been planted on American
Way, and will help beautify Euless 1200 trees were given out to
First Graders including Bear Creek Elementary School.

a booth at the HEB Festival at Pennington Field May 18. The committee
will discuss at the next meeting.
