HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-11-19 • 4.eautify Euless Everyday '04* ta*-10 C. * 04111 MEETING "BEE" COMMITTEE 7,60k-24r ' 4r1A...41- NOVEMBER 19, 1990 CALL TO ORDER: The regular monthly meeting usually scheduled for the third Monday of the month was rescheduled for November 19th and was called to order by Dee Heilman, Chairperson, at 7:00 p.m. at the City Hall in the Council Conference Room. ATTENDEES: Dee Heilman Abby DeLoach Jim DeLoach Marge Crow Rick Herold Irene Rosecrans Jay Heilman Marland Ernest Alice Ernest The minutes of the October meeting were approved as read. TREASURER'S REPORT: In the absence of the Treasurer, Dee Heilman reported new deposits from the Recycle Center, at the Mid Cities Convenience Center of $528.05 & $175.16, which will be added to the BEE account. The following expendatures were also reported by Dee Heilman: $538.49 Water Squeeze Bottles 335.16 Barbecue Awards Dinner 390.00 Christmas Decorations VOLUNTEERS HOURS: Hours that were reported for January 1990 through November 19th total 749. OLD BUSINESS: Tuesday and Wednesday nights of November 20 & 21 were scheduled to finish the frames for the "12 Days of Christmas" . Discussion was held on the purchase of other items for the display and also what to add to all displays throughout the city for Christmas 1991. Rick Herold stated that he would have a crew put the Bee Christmas displays in place and would secure them with sand bags and elevate in some manner the "12 Days of Christmas" for better viewing from the frontage road. The Christmas Tree will be placed in front of the Police Building and Dee was authorized to purchase figurines of Carolers to be placed near the tree. Marge Crow and Dee Heilman reported on the presentation of an award to Euless Junior Highschool. It was requested that a letter of appreciation be sent to City Council members who attended the Barbecue. As the Bee Committee has several purposes for the Beautification of Euless it was decided to clarify specific projects and either reassign &few "We're Building a Beautiful Tomorrow" tasks or appoint members to "chair" a specific area. Helen Lightbody and Irene Rosecrans will be on the telephone committee. Marge Crow will continue as Historian and Awards Chairman. Irene Rosecrans will work toward more publicity for the "BEE" Committee through the new Public Relations Coordinator for the City, Beth Earle. Marge Crow will continue as Recycling chairman; Althea Staks is Education Chairman; Landscaping will be handled by Rick Herold; Marland Ernest will continue Law Enforcement and Business Awards; Jay Heilman is Projects Chairman and Yard of the Month will be handled by Debra Maxwell. NEW BUSINESS: Discussion was held as to the possibility of continuing the Mid Cities Convenience Center for recycling after the City decides whether they will participate in a total recycle program for the citizens. Jay Heilman suggested two dates for the recycling of citizen's Christmas trees and he will work with TU Electric and Rick Herold toward the dates of December 29th and January 5th. Rick Herold suggested the gift of 500 trees be made to that number of citizens who bring in their trees for recycling. Rick Herold will announce the dates and place for the tree mulching and Jay Heilman is to work with Rick and TU Electric as to borrowing the mulcher. Dee Heilman reported that with $5,633.00 in the recycling fund that some of this money could be allocated to the purchase of five trash containers, with the "BEE" logo to be placed around the city. A "Th motion was made and carried and Rick Herold will place the containers around the city in locations that he and his department have observed that could best utilize this containers. Marge Crow gave a report on the Governor's Community Achievement Award and the Sustained Excellence Award was suggested to the Committee as one to work toward. On recycling there are 10 items listed with space for tons recycled during the reporting year. "Beautification" is listed on the awards form, as well as a tree planting program. Jay Heilman reported that the Highway 10 construction project would last 2 1/2 years but with five new Euless signs going in, Rick suggested that the Hwy 10 volunteers could continue with their beautification efforts as there is planting areas near these signs. Althea Staks, the Education Chairman will be working with Scout leaders and reported landscaping that has been done at some of the area schools. She will be investigating Youth Awards. The new Yard of the Month Chairman is Debra Maxwell, who was out of town for this meeting. The Committe will contact George McKinney and ask him to continue in a consulting status to aid in the GCA entry. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
