CALL TO ORDER: The regular monthly meeting of the BEE Committee was
called to order at 7:00 P.M. at the City Hall in the Council
Conference Room by Chairperson Dee Heilman.
ATTENDEES: Dee Heilman Irene Rosecrans
Helen Lightbody Betty Yarbrough
Marland Ernest Alice Ernest
Althea Staks Jay Heilman
Rick Herold Robert Yeager
Peter Staks
The minutes of the September meeting were approved as read.
TREASURERS REPORT: Balance $2,807.38 plus $646.89 from Western
Reclamation Company from the recycle program at the Mid Cities
Convenience Center.
VOLUNTEER HOURS: Members were asked to turn all volunteer hours into
Irene Rosecrans. The total volunteer hours reported for January, 1990
through the October meeting is now at 422 hours.
\,...... Dee Heilman, the Chairperson explained the reason for changing the
meeting that was held one week early. Timely decisions needed to be
made regarding the Christmas decorating projects and whether or not
the group would make the candy canes or have them prepared by Mr. Nix
who constructed other displays for us.
OLD BUSINESS: There was a lot of discussion on the CANDY CANES.
Several suggestions were made as to their- placement. The members
would like to have some placed along Main Street, if permission could
be granted from TU Electric and Southwestern Bell to attach them to
the poles and if Mr. Nix could provide the proper brackets. Robert
Yeager brought to the attention of the group that it possibly could be
time consuming receiving the permission from the Utilities companies
and Althea Staks suggested that it might be better for this year to
place the Candy Canes only on City property. Robert suggested that we
should seek the Utilities' permission as soon as possible for
placement of Candy Canes along Main Street for the 1991 season. Rick
Herold will talk to K.B. Fuller about the placement of a Christmas
tree in front of the Police Administration building.
Marland Ernest made a motion to allow Mr. Nix to make the Candy Canes
if they are near $5.00 each. Rick Herold seconded the motion. The
motion carried.

There was continued discussion on framing the 12 days of Christmas
that was on display for Christmas 1989 and it was it was decided that
a date will be set to start the project. Irene will contact Jim
DeLoach as he was asked to help in the cutting of the wood for the
frames. Vercille Jordan's help is being sought to help in the
decision making for the proper color of paint we need to enhance the
12 Days of Christmas Display. Marland Ernest suggested using lx4
pieces of wood with mitered corners and while shadow boxing the
pictures was discussed the group decided ease in storage would
prohibit making the frames in that manner. Robert suggested that
simply cutting framing boards, mitering them, painting them and
attaching to the pictures would be the fastest method. The group
decided to let the men make the decision as to what method would work
best and if tacking strips attached to the actual framing boards would
work no further discussion would be necessary.
AWARDS BANQUET: The annual Awards Banquet has been set for November
3rd at Midway Park Recreation Center, invitations have been mailed and
R.S.V.P. requested. Rick Herold will invite employees of Parks and
Recreation and notification by October 24th to the Center and the
Caterer will be given so that final plans can be handled. The Awards
to be given out this year will be drink container mugs. Althea
suggested the colors of a white base, yellow bees and black lettering.
The lettering will be Beautify Euless Everyday, the BEE, VOLUNTEER,
and THANKS TO PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD. The cost for colored ink
change is $35.00 per color and the price for the mugs approximately
$3.00 each. Dee will check the price for 100 and if within the
amounts suggested will purchase them. Jay Heilman is in charge of
entertainment and Rick Herold was asked to be M.C.
RECYCLING: A Recycling Committee is to be appointed by the City
Council and it has been suggested that at least two members of the Bee
Committee be allowed on that committee. Tom Cox is the "in-house"
recycling person and he has a committee formed to make suggestions on
how the city can recycle its paper and aluminum cans.
BUSINESS AWARDS: Marland Ernest contacted the Chevron Station and the
manager has said that she would have to contact the District office
and she will contact him as soon as she hears from them.
YOUTH AWARDS: Althea Staks is chairperson for this committee and will
get something going as soon as her work is completed on the Airport
issue.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS: Rick Herold reported that City Council has
approved the 1 + 1 — 2 tree program and has contact Donna Hibbets and
received permission to give each first-grader in Euless a 3 foot red
oak tree. A tree grant fund of $5,000.00, plus a portion of the
Community Betterment Fund was given by Council to fund this program.
Rick told us of the proposed landscaping at entrances to the city and
also the plans for Highway 10 when the Highway department's work there
has been completed.
NEW BUSINESS: The principal at Midway Park has been commended on her
efforts in beautification around her school and a letter will be
written thanking her.
Rick reported that work along Hwy 121 has been contracted and many
compliments have been received. Rick suggested that we recycle
Christmas trees as we did last year, but instead or returning mulch to
the citizen a tree be given instead. The seedlings can be purchased
through the Texas Forestry Service at a cost of $1.50 and a decision
will be made at the next meeting.
Refreshments were provided by Dee Heilman and the meeting was
adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
