HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-09-17 Beautify Euless Everyday T i 111 /W REGULAR MEETING * Kt * "_r�i�� "BEE" COMMITTEE " ��� -�/ SEPTEMBER 17, 1990 �-1 ,10 CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the BEE Committee was called to order at 7:00 P.M. at the City Hall in the Council Conference Room by Dee Heilman. ATTENDEES: Dee Heilman Irene Rosecrans Marge Crow Louise Webb Marland Ernest Alice Ernest Althea Staks The minutes of the August meeting were lost due to a faulty tape transmission. TREASURERS REPORT: Balance $2,807.38 as of September 1, 1990. The major expenditure was for the Christmas 1990 project. VOLUNTEER HOURS: Members were asked to turn all volunteer hours into Irene Rosecrans. The total volunteer hours reported for June through August is 227.5. OLD BUSINESS: Mr Nix is working on the newest edition to our Christmas display. Four feet candy canes will also be worked on as a group project. Other interested participants will be brought in to work on this special project. There was discussion on framing the 12 days of Christmas that was on display for Christmas 1989 and it was it was decided to frame them, allow Rick Herold to elevate and will check into some type of glitter paint to brighten our "days" . A Christmas tree has been purchased and permission from K.B. Fuller will be requested to place it on the Public Safety Building. It was discussed to seek permission to place a reservation for the Ruth Millican Center for the painting of. the candy canes. AWARDS BANQUET: Suggested date for the annual awards banquet is November 3 at Midway Park Recreation Center. Irene will verify dates and reserve the center. Dee will check with the caterer, James Smith. Awards to be given out were discussed and it was decided to do something different. Irene Rosecrans made the motion that someone look into the purchase of water containers (like runners use) at Shield's Trophy. Marland Ernest seconded the motion. The "BEE" logo and " volunteer, year and city of Euless" logo were to be included on the insulators. Invited guests will include council members, city staff, Administration staff, Parks and Recreation Board, BEE members and volunteers. Decoration and entertainment will be taken care of by Jay Heilman. Irene Rosecrans suggested a puppet show by Vietnamese. It was decided that we might use the Viet Nam people to entertain at some other time. AWARD AT EULESS JUNIOR HIGH: Marge will check within the next two dew "We're Building a Beautiful Tomorrow" weeks in order to make date for Pep Rally presentation, NEW BUSINESS: Marland Ernest passed pictures of latest Business Landscape Award winner which was Taco Bell at corner of Main Street and Hwy 10. He asked for suggestion for the next award. Wilshire Shopping Center was suggested. Much discussion followed. Irene suggested that another award emphasizing improvement might be introduced. Marland asked that we table the discussion regarding Wilshire Shopping Center. B and B Auto Supply, Chevron Service Station, McDonald's and Mobile Service Station were suggested as potential winners. Kroger was brought up with its history of littering. Althea spoke of documenting their code violations with pictures and then turning in complaint to Irene Rosecrans, who accepts citizen complaints for Administrative Services. Alice said that she would take pictures of Kroger documenting their violations. These pictures will be sent to corporate offices of Kroger. Althea Staks volunteered to serve as our chairperson for youth activities. Marge Crow reported on latest articles on recycles in newspaper including the article on Buck Hubbard and Irene. Althea brought up the "Don't Bag It" program in Bedford. Rick has said that he will head the committee as a volunteer to introduce the program in Euless. Althea mentioned that the airport problem has created apathy in the affected neighborhood. We need to be aware of this problem. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M. .
