The Chairman recognized the visitors. Corresponding Secretary read the minutes
of the meeting held April 16, 1990. A correction was made in the actual hours
reported that the Recycle Center was open. The minutes were corrected and approved.
The secretary reported that she has forwarded letters of thanks and appreciation
to all who contributed in one way or other to the "BEE" booth. This included
Alcoa Aluminum for new Recycle Center brochures and book markers; Waste Management
for the BEES and plastic cups; Rick Herold for working so closely with us and
assisting us and Steve Norwood for providing a brochure giving information on the
relocation of the Recycle Center. She also suggest that we consider making a
purchase of the "BEES" for promotional use in the future, since they are so
popular and provide an excellent opportunity for public awareness of our Committee
and its objectives. A price list has been requested from the distributor and
will be available at a future meeting.
Treasurer report was not available this month. We do now have a new treasurer--
Louise Webb. Louise is an accountant and will keep our books for us. She will be
a most welcome member to our Committee.
VOLUNTEER HOURS: Dotty McKinney gave a general report of individual hours turned
in. We have a lower count this year primarily because we are not all turning in
our hours. A total count of volunteer hours for this year will be provided for
our entry to the Governor's Achievement Awards Entry.
WINNERS RECEIVED AWARDS: Irene Rosecrans has wrapped and mailed all the items
she made from "recycled materials" to the winners. She retained the names that
we drew from with the hope that we may be able to recruit new members from them.
CLEAN UP PROJECT: Marge reported that theclean-up project which was initiated
by Ken Balsinger could be a good project to submit for our next major clean-up
project in our Entry. The area is adjacent to Airport Freeway and Huffman Drive.
The Committee was in favor of doing this project.
RECYCLE CENTER: The young attendant we currently have at the Center is really
not working our very well. Concerns were expressed that he was not able to handle
the job. He can not talk, comprehend and is not capable of operating alone.
The physical facilities at the City Garbage require that an attendant be capable
and sufficiently knowledgeable to handle the job. After much discussion, a motion
was made and approved that we terminate the attendant as soon as possible. A

letter will be forwarded to ARC immediately.
A lengthy discussion was held regarding our current status of the Recycle Center.
The "BEE" with moneys donated from Southwestern Bell Telephone and by researching
communities was able to get free use Of dumpsters and arrange for free pickup.
The City provided a good secure location for the Center. After many hours of
volunteer time and effort, BEE initiated the Recycle Center. Considerable time
was spent in coordinating the needs of the Center, arranging pick up of collected
materials, monitoring the actual operation, publicizing the opening and handing
Out brochures detailing the location and need to recycle vs using the landfills.
Cities of Hurst and Bedford were contacted and made aware of the project and invited
to participate. "BEE" hired and paid a disadvantaged attendant and maintained
records of moneys received. The project was going well and other cities were
referred to us regarding our operation of the Center.
When the City decided it was necessary to move the Center, our project was set
back some but we continued to promote the Center and work with the City relative
to the relocation. Since THE BEE was not a part of the decision making process
and does not know what the contractual agreement is between the City and City
Garbage, Inc. . it no longer has any control over the Center nor can it adequately
respond to any complaints or questions regarding the operation or locGtion. The
recordkeeping is more difficult.
\ The Committee concluded that we need to appoint a committee to meet with our

-- City Manager to find out what is going on and where we stand in this situation.
A motion was made and approved to that effect. Marland Ernest and Marge Crow
volunteered to meet with Tom Hart and report back to the Committee their findings.
No further action will be taken regarding the Center at this time until we hear
from the Committee.
PUBLICITY: Favorable comments were made regarding the Mayor's newsletter and
the economic report.
EDUCATION: George McKinney provided an update of his activities with the schools.
Trees have been planted on the campuses. Principals were given awards for their
participation. Training aids and film made by Franchot Thomas are being well
utilized.
EULESS TRASH-OFF: Jay reported with the help of Irene and Marlamd0n theitesult of the
trash-off. Business responding to this project were sent letters thanking them
for their participation. The trash-off was successful. There was more participation
this year.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
