CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting of the "BEE" Committee, a volunter group
for the City of Euless, was called to order at 7:00 P.M. at the City Hall by
Chairman Marge Crow.
ATTENDEES: Marge Crow Dotty & George McKinney
Bob Perry Irene Rosecrans
Abbey Deloach Helen Lightbody
Alice & Marland Ernest Rick Herold
Robert Yeager, Southwestern Bell Team
VISITORS: Coleen Ault
Beverly Foley
Nancy Young
The Chairman introduced the visitors. Coleen Ault has been a volunteer for "BEE"
for many years and maintained one of the Highway #10 flower beds. Beverly Foley
visited us from Trophy Club. Nancy Young, a Euless resident, joined Beverly Foley
in her search for assistance and information. We hope both Coleen and Nancy will
continue to attend our monthly meetings and take part in our various activities.
-- The minutes of the meeting held January 15, 1990 were approved as mailed.
VOLUNTEER HOURS: Dotty McKinney received the volunteer hours and we are again
reminded to keep our hours current. These records are valuable in preparing the
reports for our Governor's Achievement Awards and other statistical data.
YARD OF THE MONTH: Abbey Deloach provided the Committee with her proposed
program for this year. She outlined the designated areas for judging, method of
judging, awarding of certificates and awards, newspaper coverage for the winners
and other related information. There will be some changes from the previous year
and the project will be an improvement and a vital part of our Committee
activities.
NORTHEAST TEAM - SOUTHWESTERN BELL: Robert Yeager, a representative for the
Northeast Team of Southwestern Bell Company Employees reported on community projects
that they have worked on and are participating in. He will be reviewing our
various projects and determine where his group can best assist us. We are truly
grateful for the continued interest and assistance received from Southwestern
Bell, the support from Gary Terry and his wife Anne, and other other employees
including Gary Barber. We look forward to their continued support in the future.
RECYCLING: Bob Perry reported that some improvements have been made at our
Recycling Center. The aluminum can container now has a tarp on it which will

hopefully keep water our of the cans. Only 2% water is allowed for a load to
qualify for the better rate with Alcoa. We anticipate the containers will be
freshly painted and labeled. Alcoa has been very cooperative with us in this
project and we need the moneys to pay the salary for the handicapped employee.
A load of 14,460 lbs. of newspapers has been delivered and should be receiving a
a check for the load soon. Marge Crow and Alice Ernest are scheduled to meet
with Steve Norwood regarding charges for materials brought to the dumpster and
a brochure providing the necessary information and location of the Center. The
brochure will be provided to all Euless citizens and will be handed out at the
upcoming "Leisure Faire '90". We feel that with the improvements being made
the Center will be well managed and utilized by all Mid Cities residents and
businesses. Factual information will be provided to those at the City offices
who respond to the numerous activities and inquiries within the City. We hope
the new Center will encourage and help us achieve our goal of extending the use
or our landfills and utilizing our recyclables for further use.
Discussion was held with Beverly Foley of Trophy Club regarding our Recycling
Program, "Don't Bag It" program which is being initiated as a new project is the
City of Euless and the other activities which "BEE" promotes. The Committee
will work with her in any area she needs further assistance.
EULESS TRASH-OFF: Scheduled for APRIL 6 and 7, 1990. Irene Rosecrans and
Jay Heilman presented a drafted letter to be 9entto businesses regarding the
Trash-off. Businesses will be contacted and requested to collect trash in their
designated areas and place the trash bags at a given point, at which time Committee
and Staff personnel will collect bags and volunteers will assist in this project.
We also hope to get the participation of the various Sports Groups in the City to
get involvement from all those who enjoy the use of our parks and leisure services.
An entry from "BEE" for the Governor's Achievement Awards Program has not been
submitted for this year. A project for the Youth portion of this program is being
considered for entry.
LEISURE FAIRE '90: Scheduled for March 31 surely promises to be an outstanding
event. Rick Herold is working on the various phases of this project with the
assistance of employess of the Parks and Leisure Department and other staff personnel.
There will be many new booths and activities, excellent speakers and coverage from
a local radio station. Brochures and further publicity will be forthcoming. The
"BEE" will have a booth and a display for recycling.
EDUCATION/PUBLIC AWARENESS: George McKinney commented that the tree awarding
project for the schools has been completed except for one Special Ed school. He
reported that Jimmy Beck, Dick Mitchell, Johnny Ledbetter and Otis Hall do a good
job during the planting of the trees. Jimmy Beck talks to the students throughout
the planting process and touches on other areas such as recycling using the tree
mulch from our Xmas Tree Project. He informs them of the hotline which is available
and this could be beneficial to the students as some schools have special projects
on their campuses.
Education Boxes (3) prepared and assembled by "BEE" in conjunction with the
WASTE-IN-PLACE PROGRAM HAVE BEEN VERY EFFECTIVE and he hopes to get a similar
... box assembled for the 1st Grade Level. The training aids are very beneficial
because they can be readily used by the teachers not only in the W-I-P PROGRAM
PAGE 3 - MINUTES OF MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 19, 1990, (BEE) COMMITTEE
but can be used in various related subjects, such as health, social science, etc.
A special program was held at Oakwood Terrace for the participants of the
Halloween SPOOK-ATHON.
CHRISTMAS PROJECT/DECORATIONS: Irene Rosecrans reported some areas that they
will be concentrating on in the City and types of decorations being proposed.
Considering this project is starting so early in the year, we anticipate it will
be a very effective project.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
