The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Alice Ernest. Bernina Deloach reported
that the minutes of the past meeting indicated that the judging of the "Yard of the
Month" was to start the end of this month and should read to start the end of next
month (April). The minutes were approved with that correction.
Volunteer hours for the past month were turned in and the Acting Chairman reminded
everyone that these hours needed to be submitted prior to the completion of our
entry to Austin.
Helen Lightbody reported that she wrote "thank you" letters to those participating in
the GREAT EULESS TRASHOFF, typed minutes and agenda and typed on our entry to Austin.
She is also working on the handouts to be presented at the "How to Grow Show".
Patsy Phillips reported that our current treasury balance is $389.66. We have some
bills outstanding. The City will write checks for the $3000 Southwestern Bell donation
and when it is exhausted, we will need to establidlour own accounting for the recycling
program.
`. The Recycling Center will have its official opening 4/22/89 at 2:00 PM. Invitations
have been sent out.
Randy Marsh reported that Tim Vanover, 17- years old, will be our first Career Center
School student. Both he and his family are really looking forward to this. Tim's
schooling will continue both in the classroom in the mornings and at the Center in the
afternoons. Tim should be allowed to do more :than .recycling , to increase his abilities
and allow for diversity. Mr. Marsh cautioned the "BEE" that momentum may begin to
wane as publicity drops and he urged the committee to continue to stir the citizens up
to keep this program going.
Bob Perry said the guidelines are not available, as yet, for the student. These should
be provided shortly. We definitely need to pursue computer paper donations for this
program.
Randy Marsh also mentioned that Larry Armstrong, a disabled person, has started making
caps with logos on them. He presented the "BEE" committee each with a cap. A picture
was taken. Price of the caps is $3.00. He has named his company "HANDY CAPS" by
Larry. He hopes to learn how to do T-shirts also. We need to publicize what he does.
HOW TO GROW SHOW - 4/29/89: Bob Phillips has provided an attractive booth for the
"BEE". We hope to retain it and use it for future programs. Promotional material will
be placed on the counter such as Adopt Main Street, Adopt Highway #10, and other public
awareness brochures and educational material. Bob made a permanent sign of the
decomposition rate chart and it is available for visual aid programs. A sheet was
i...„. around for volunteers to work the booth. The Plant Shed has volunteered to
provide plants for decorating our booth area.

Minutes of Meeting held April 17, 1989 "BEE"
Alice Ernest mentioned that a call was received from Atland Plastics suggesting we
include plastics in our recycling program. They recommended we start with milk and
water cartons and soft drink cartons of plastic.
Our newspaper bin at the Center has been emptied twice and is almost full again. The
glass bins are about 3/4 full.
Jeffrey Tate has volunteered his services to assist us in the paperwork needed to
become a tax-free, non-profit organization.
Bob Phillips reported that some 150 lbs. of bermuda grass and some bedding plants were
planted in the berm area. It will take at least a month before the area starts to show
growth and color. Discussion was held relative to the dedication date. It was
tentatively set up for Friday, June 9, 1989 depending on the City calendar.
Marland and Jay discussed the next GREAT EULESS TRASHOFF and said they felt we needed
to get more community involvement. They suggested we issue a challenge some 60 days
ahead to citizens, high school , churches, Post Office, Masonic Lodge, TU Electric and
other public type entities. We may use a Friday/Saturday pickup or it could even ex-
tend a week. We would pickup the material and count what they pick up. They may
encourage other peoples' interest. We would be the facilitator, pickup, score-tally.
Sports Groups could select a spot and need to be included. Efforts will be coordinated
to expand this program.
TWELVE DAYS OF XMAS PROJECT: This project is temporarily on hold until we complete
our many projects in April.
Jay Heilman related an ARC Summer Program. He said we will have available to us
five students with two coaches for this program. He suggested we get them involved
in a program with a sponsored theme. He mentioned several areas of long term projects
that could be effective.
Highway #10 - Bob Phillips said the beds were planted individually with different
flowers and will be different colors. He also has redone some landscaping on Main
Street.
Bernina Deloach reported that they are ready to judge next week. Fourteen new
entrants are participating this year. She mentioned that an apartment complex called
regarding _judging apartments, Alice was going to check with Steve Norwood regarding
the business newsletter and some discussion was held regarding awards for businesses
this year. Bernina will send out a letter and work on the apartment complexes to
determine the interest in this area.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M.
