driA►` J' THE MAY MEETING OF THE "BEE" WAS A LUNCHEON MEETING U T `J
'WI HELD AT THE HOME OF CAROLYN PARK. A BRIEF INFORMAL
MEETING FOLLOWED THE LUNCHEON.
ATTENDEES: Alice & Marland Ernest, Wadette Matthews, Patsy and Bob Phillips, Dottie
and George McKinney, Carolyn Park, Betty Yarbrough and Helen Lightbody. Also present
were "Blacky"Sustaire, City Manager; Tom Hart, Asst. City Manager; Kay Rainey, City
Secretary; Julia Wakeley, Director of Recreation; Rick Herold, Director of Parks
and guest Annabelle Barnett.
Following the luncheon an informal meeting was called by Chairman Alice Ernest to
reflect on what we have done as a committee in the past - and a looking ahead time
as to what we propose to do in the future.
A motion was made by George McKinney and seconded by Carolyn Park that we definitely
continue with our "BEE" program. The decision was unanimous in that we have made
great strides in the past two years and we could only gain by continuing this project.
Open discussion was held exchangirgseveral new ideas and opening some avenues for
goals for our coming year. Tom Hart suggested a program whereby we could allow for
(1) street sweeping, (2) "Sparkle Week" perhaps more than once a year, and (3)
Litter abatement. He suggested that a fee could be assessed to the citizens for
approximately 750 per month for this program. The sweeper and brush truck could
be identified with a "BEE" sign to promote awareness and goals of the Committee.
Recycling was discussed. Existing programs relating to recycling newspapers in
schools were reviewed. Approximately 60 to 70 per cent of all trash could be
recycled. This area is one that is definitely needed as we will be finding it
difficult to find new landfills when the existing ones have reached their capacity.
Carolyn Park suggested that recycling should be one of our major goals this year.
The "Yard of the Month" program has begun and it was decided that we would give
certificates this year instead of plaques. The yard signs would be the same as
last year.
"SPECIAL NOTE" --- WHILE WE DID NOT HAVE A FORMAL MEETING WITH THE NORMAL REPORTS,
BOB PHILLIPS MENTIONED THAT THE LAST MINUTES REFLECTED AN INACCURACY IN STATING
THAT THE HIGHWAY #10 FLOWER BEDS WERE COMPLETED. THERE STILL .IS MUCH WORK TO BE
DONE ON THESE BEDS AND EVERY EFFORT SHOULD BE MADE TO SEE THAT THESE BEDS LOOK
GOOD SINCE WE MAY HAVE AN"ON THE SITE" INSPECTION OF THEM PRIOR TO THE AWARDS
SELECTION BY KEEP TEXAS BEAUTIFUL, INC. SOME VOLUNTEERS ALSO NEED TO BE REMINDED
TO WEED THEIR BEDS.
Two businesses were suggested to be considered for the Business Awards in Euless.
They are: Ferguson Plumbing Co. ,Hwy #10 and Case Equipment Company at Airport
Freeway.

Chairman Ernest reminded everyone of the Keep Texas Beautiful, Inc. annual meeting
to be held this year at Dallas on June 30, July 1 and 2.
All members of the committee and personnel from the City were urged to review
the Agenda and attend if possible. This program combines the efforts of all
cities toward beautification.
The Committee was asked by KTB,Inc. to provide table place settings for the
"Waste-in-Place" breakfast at the annual meeting. A motion was made by Carolyn
Park and seconded by Helen Lightbody that we provide these place settings.
The committee agreed unanimously. Discussion was held as to what we would
make for the centerpieces and it was determined that we would have a special
woik session just for this project. Members of the Committee will bring any
ideas/pictures/etc. to this meeting so that we may hopefully come up with a
clever display. The committee will meet at 10:00 AM, 5/26/87 at the former
pre-council chamber room in the now Municipal Building.
Due to the annual meeting taking place in June, we will not have our regular
meeting on the third Monday of June.
We will be having our programmed "clean-up" of West Parkway on June 13 at 8:00 A.M.
All Committee members that can attend should meet at WestPark at that time.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 2:45 PM.
