HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-11-17 r Beautify Euless Everyday MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 17, 198 The meeting was called to order at 7 : 00 p .m . Attendees were : Chairman Alice Ernest , Marland Ernest , Bob Phillips, Patsy Phillips , Althea Staks , Carolyn Park , George McKinney , Dottie McKinney , Karen Kennedy and Wadette Matthew's . Chairman Ernest introduced Mr . Bill Vincent , Councilman from the City of Richland Hills and Environmental Entrepreneur who pre- sented a film on the recycling of tires . The film showed eyesore collections of tires dumped in various areas , related the problems created by these tires being discarded in various sights , such as ; creating erosion of soil problems in creeks , breeding of mosquitoes , etc . , and showed the process of recycling tires by the Texas Tire Disposal Company in Ft . Worth . Currently the Discount Tire Company located on Highway 157 has a contract for collection of tires with this Company . The film and presentation is available to any interested groups in the area. Following this presentation , much discussion and questions were asked with regards to the problems relating to the tire collection within the City of Euless . Treasurer Patsy Phillips reported that we are still in the red on our budget (-$284.98) . A meeting was held at Alice Ernest ' s home to organize the scrap- books relating to "Beautify Euless Everyday" activities during the past two years . The scrapbooks were presented to the Euless Library by the "BEE" at their Open House Sunday the 16th . Some 5000 library book markers were also presented to the Library. Carolyn Park submitted a report on trash receptacles to KTB , Inc . She forwarded a letter to our State Chairman on Waste in Place Program . Some newspaper articles were mentioned and commended Bob Phillips on the "Trinity "T"" . George Mckinney reported that four teachers from the South Euless Elementary Schools were present for the "Waste in Place" presentation . Some 2000 "Don ' t Mess with Texas" handouts were given to the schools . Bob Phillips updated us on the progress of the Highway #10 flower beds . He is currently preparing the soil for spring planting . Althea Staks ' s husband drafted a letter which was mailed to all Main Street addressees in relation to our project for the year - ADOPT MAIN STREET . The letter asked participation in adopting a portion of MaIN Street . Response to date indicated that more information needed to be provided and consideration was given to sending a second letter with more specifics . We hope to get a committee to work on this project and coordinate the activities . Althea has contacted 3 major groups regarding the patches that are to be earned by the various youth groups . 8- "We're Building a Beautiful Tomorrow" 1500 Shady Creek Dr. •Euless, Texas 76040 PAGE 2 MINUTES OF MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 17 , 1987 Wadette Matthews is working on decals to be used on our trucks that deal with waste disposal . Much discussion was held on the best type , quantity and cost . Marland Ernest reported that he has been talking with City Staff with regard to law enforcement and he has further plans to bring more awareness to the community with regard to litter. The meeting was adjourned at 10 :00 P .M .
